Any BA's stop by their local convenience store just to grab a cold 'one' on the way home? What is your favorite pit stop's selection like? Do they have a self serve growler station like mine does? What are you paying for a craft brew on the go these days?

A local convenience store has one of the best craft selections in the area, plus brewing supplies and growler fills. I stop there several times a week, sometimes mid-day, usually to buy singles I haven't had before. So a singles nooner quickie

Lucky me the one convenience store that is close to where I live has the absolute worst beer selection.

Definitely. 19.2 ounce stovepipe of All Day IPA or Lagunitas 12th of Never for $1.99.

As @cavedave comments, we are also pretty lucky around here. There are no nearby convenience stores or gas stations that sell beer anywhere near here.

Ah, the classic beer stop on the way home. My favorite of all time was Quick 'N Shine carwash in Gilbert, AZ. Insane bottle selection and a nice growler fill station, too. They don't sell beer in convenience stores or gas stations here in NJ so I don't really have a go to spot, I usually go to a grocery store or something.

Also when you say "a cold 'one' on the way home" I really hope you don't mean this literally (especially you in there Arizona! you'll get guaranteed jail time, license suspension, huge fines, "therapy" courses, ignition interlock [which you must pay rent for], etc. all for first time offenders :cold_sweat: )

Man, how long did that sell for? Different times back then but am I the only one that thinks it looks like a grenade?

At the time, Piels was part of the Associated Brewing Co., which used that shape bottle, both 7 oz. and, more commonly, 12 oz- (called "Big Mouth" bottles) for their other brands like Sterling, Pfieffer (maybe Schmidt?) and, a green one, for a malt liquor called "Mickey's".

The latter brand in particular were nicknamed "hand grenades" by fans- still are to this day, for a similar shaped bottle now with a screw-off cap, from MillerCoors.

Yes indeed, I am lucky and have multiple stops around my house. Almost every gas station now has a growler station with all the local guys and a good selection from surrounding states. So its endless regarding selection. Also have a really nice bottle shop down way that was one of first guys to focus on craft so they always have tons of good stuff. AZ has grown up big time with beer, we even got a 25 page spread in Phoenix Mag this month talking about craft beer in AZ. So yes OP, I like to grab one on the way home here and there especially around Thur for games etc....
    Cheers.

The nearby places have a nice selection of crap macro lagers and malt liquor swill. If they have any IPA's (what I crave) at all, they're usually six months old at a bare minimum. At least the grocery stores get fresh TG special releases (e.g. King Sue, Hopsmack), albeit in limited quantities.

    Why don't I keep a stock of IPA's at home, you ask? Because I can't, that's why.

Gas stations just started carrying beer over on this side of the state. Grocery stores have been for the last couple years. Only saving grace is that the selection at the gas stations is pretty meh. OK if you REALLY needed a sixer, but nothing wonderful.

Never heard of convenience stores with growler fills. Jealous.

Not many quickie options for me: either tall boys of good ol' macro from chain drug stores or a local craft bomber from a wine store with very limited selection.

Some of you guys have it pretty damn good

We used to love the 7oz bottles. For us it was usually Old Vienna or Miller, we'd grab an 8-pack and just go riding around the back roads. when the beer was gone, we'd pull into another country store and grab more. The deposit law killed 'em pretty quickly though.

When I lived in outside of Boston, mid-70s, the only way I could find Genesee Cream Ale (which relatives in upstate NY had turned me onto) was in the nips - and I had to be passing through the Worcester area to find 'em!
Never drank Miller but, early 80s in the Southern Tier of NY, used get out of work at 12:45am, driving like crazy to get to the bar before 1am closing, throw a $5 bill on the counter and get 9 OV's put in front of me --- along with $2 change in quarters for pinball.
3 OV's for $1. (Lessee... it probably took me 10-12 minutes to make a buck then, but still sounds like a good deal).
