Was recently gifted one in a BIF, and I'm curious as to how its doing. Has it peaked? Would it do better with a little more time on it?

I'm inclined to open it in early january for my 30th, as I've never had it before. But with a 2012 on the way. I'm curious as to whether or not the vintage bottle I have should be held on to a bit more or be cracked alongside it for comparison's sake.

I had a 2008 last month and it was spectacular. If it is your last one you may want to hold on to it a little longer.

I recently had an opportunity to taste a 2008-2010-2012 vertical. Unfortunately (for you), the group consensus was that the 2010 vintage was at the bottom of the list. It seemed a little weak and thin at release and the flavors really haven't done much in two years. The 2008 was holding up remarkably well, with plenty of fruity tartness still present. The 2012 is a different beer, with a much more oak-forward flavor.

So, to answer your question - I would open that 2010 sooner rather than later. Waiting until the end of January would be no big deal, but I don't see the beer improving at all. I think tasting it against the 2012 would be appropriate. Not because it's an epic vertical, but just because it's interesting to compare the clearly similar, but different beers from Deschutes.

That's pretty much exactly what I was hoping for in a response. Thanks!
