Not when the truck sits overnight in below zero temperatures!

IF the truck or storage facility isn't air tight, strong, driving winds will rapidly displace warmer air causing temps to drop rapidly. I routinely experience this in my old drafty house, especially the kitchen where the dog doors are. 10-20F with no wind & the downstairs is chilly. High winds coupled with those temps & the pipes freeze & my dog's 5 qt water bowl freezes solid. -30 windchill won't bring beer temps to -30, but it can cause the beer to fall to the actual temp much more quickly, & that's usually well below the freezing point.

Does shipping in a styro shipper help at all? I've got one that's kind of like a cooler and I'm wondering if that helps in colder temps vs just shipping with normal packaging stuff?

Wind only speeds up a change in temperature from what the thing changing temperature to the temperature of the surrounding air. Wind chill impacts people, because we are genearlly 98.6, and the wind circulates cooler air past our bodies faster than our bodies can heat it up.

If the temp is 33 degrees, no amount of wind will make water freeze.

    However:

If I have a 6 pack of beer in my house at 70 degrees, and I put it in the yard when the temp is 15 degrees, yes the beer will eventually get down to 15 degrees. If it's really windy, it will get to 15 degrees faster. Time in the cold may have some bearing on if a bottle lives or dies.

Ever blow on your soup to get it to cool off? Wind chill.

I had a buddy unexpectedly ship me a box from MI on Monday and have been checking the shipping status obsessively. I'm on pins and needles with the temps being as low as they are.

I can't say for certain, but I use styro shippers for 95% of my boxes and have never had an issue with damage, freezing, breaking, popping, or whatever.

My box with a bunch of low abv lambics made it to Colorado without incident last week.

It's been warmer the last couple weeks, but I sent and received a multitude of boxes with no issue. All the beers I got felt really cold but none froze or anything.

Thanks, that makes me feel more confident shipping to the midwest. This is my first beer trading winter. Lol
