To add some fuel to the fire of the current bad trader thread going on I wanted to see if anyone has traded with Hoppedup616?

I did a trade with him over three weeks ago where we agreed to both ship at the same time due to our rookiness to BA. I have been a craft beer lover for a while, but just started trading a few months back so I should have done more research on this trade. I blame it on being nieve as I feel I need to build the rapport due to my minimal 5 trade references.

Here goes and would love some feedback/advice on how to proceed and make sure at least no one else gets hosed by this guy since it appears he has screwed me and ran. We agreed to a trade of me sending 4 Goose Island BCS for 2 HF BA pumpkin Ales. He lives in a state you can't get 15% beers and frankly I wanted to hook him up since it must blow not to get to drink what I think is a masterpiece. I also really like the non BA HF pumpkin so figured I would get it early as he was going to the brewery on release day and seemed fair on $4$.

We had great communication, shipped mine on Saturday sept 22 and he received them on the 24th. As soon as I sent tracking I didn't hear from him for days. The concern was he was reading every message, but not replying. At this point I did some snooping and found pictures of him drinking my BCS and someone else's KBS the day my package was delivered!!! On top of that,he mentions he is moving!! So now i have a guy drinking my beer who moved and im sitting here with rage and no way to contact this guy other than BA. I continue to send messages and call this out and he finally replies after threats of adding to the potential bad trader list. Says "I'm a dumbass, got busy with moving and never traded for a whale so was making sure I got it before shipping. I have yours boxed up and will add an extra for the trouble".

I get it, we get busy.....been two weeks to the day since that message, guy is active on FB and is posting pics of other beers, not sure they are from trades or not, but concerning as i just don't want anyone else getting burned. He has not read a single BM I have sent since Sept 26th and yet he is active daily on FB. I could care less about the $40 I spent on beer and shipping. What I do care about is getting fu$ked by someone other than my wife.

If you have traded with him, know him and can ask the guy to send me my beer I would be In your debt...and hopefully a little positive karma your way. Just don't want someone else getting the same treatment I don't deserve.

Thanks and I still have faith in BA, but like society, lots of douche bags out there!

He screwed you and is a worthless POS. Sorry man. I joined this year and am 23 trades deep with no issues other than a couple of lazy shippers. Don't give up on trading, it's awesome.

Sorry to hear this, I wish I had access to those beers and we could send each other sympathy boxes. I assume the HF is for Hill Farmstead? Thats the last place the guy who f'ed me said he was going. They're probably sitting around HF laughing it up drinking our beers. See any Upland lambics or Cascades in those pics?

It was actually for a BA Hoppin Frog pumpkin. Saw your post, sorry to hear you got screwed by a douche bag as well. Thank god I have enough beer around to keep me happy, doesn't keep me from wanting a tree to fall on the guy though!

Lol, shit, oops, my bad. I used to think Hoppin' Frog whenever I saw HF but Hill Farmstead changed all of that. I was wondering why I hadn't seen more ISO's for a HIll Farmstead pumpkin beer, that explains it.

Be sure you add him to the bad trader list, contact oldp0rt. Unfortunately, he is becoming busier by the day. Keep your eyes open for an LIF I will try to do in the next month or two for people who got f'ed on trades. I hope you don't, but it sounds like you may qualify. Again, be sure he gets on the bad trader list and yourself as the reporting party so you don't get left out of the LIF. *Hint, hint

Definitely will be adding him. Trying to give the benefit so giving a day or two in hopes this gets read by him if it was laziness or mistake. If not, he deserves it.

Another one? Sorry to hear. I'm supposed to be getting a bottle of BA Frog's Hollow eventually, we should meet up next time I'm in Chicago (probably around Christmas). Sorry it will be after pumpkin season but it's never too late to share some good beer with good people.

I know it has been said 1000 times over by now, but people keep doing it - noobs should not trade with noobs. Build up some experience with vets, and then you can trade with noobs and ask them to ship first.

If everybody stuck to this rule, then the only way anyone is going to get screwed is when a vet flakes out. That does happen from time to time, but not nearly as often as it happens with noobs.

What makes a vet a vet though? A lot of self proclaimed vets also talk about how they only trade with regular trading partners making a noobs trading pool a little smaller. I think the noobs can trade with noobs, as long as they understand the risks they are taking. We are all adults here and should know that life isn't all roses. Stick within your means, keep the harpoons off your boat. Better yet, just stick to the fishing from the dock for a little while.

There aren't many vets out there that won't happily trade with a noob, as long as the noob ships first. And there are a lot more vets out there than there are noobs, so the availability pool shouldn't be a big issue.

As to what makes a vet? I dunno - it's subjective I suppose. I like to see some combination of 5-10 trades, a year on the site, and solid forum/review activity. It's flexible, but ultimately I'm looking for people who I feel are into it for the long haul. People who are more vested in the site/hobby are less likely to flake out than somebody who signs up, gets into it for 6 months, does a few trades, and then loses interest. (Which is precisely what I think happens with most bad traders - they're not malicious, they just lose interest and don't care)

Noobs can certainly trade with noobs, but it's a recipe for disaster. Bad traders, shipping problems, learning how to pack a box, send extras, etc - there's just so much that can go wrong with noob-on-noob trading. There's a lot of "insider info" worth learning from vets.

I would agree with this. Even though I haven't 'activily' seeked out a trade in a while, if a noob contacted me for a trade I would take the time to walk them through the process and get a trade done with them. I mostly trade with personal friends these days, off the forum of course, but I have enough BA trades to consider myself a 'vet' and I'm sure my past trading partners would say the same.
