Hey everyone, just brewed my first batch of beer over the weekend using a Brewer's Best Kolsch kit I was given as a gift. Hopefully it turns out alright though I've read a lot of negative posts regarding BB's kits on BA. So I did a bit of research and I came across Keystone Homebrew. They seem to have quiet a variety of kits, and since I live in Pennsylvania I'm thinking it might be cheaper from a shipping standpoint than ordering something from somewhere like Northern Brewer.

So how are Keystones kits? Any recommendations? Thanks very much.

I know they run a good homebrew store and have lots of variety of ingredients as I buy some stuff there. I would assume therefore that their kits have fresh ingredients as well. Personally I don't brew kits so I cannot specifically comment on their recipe design.

I would, but I wouldn't know where to get those specially lined cans!

Keystone is my LHBS. It is a quality store with knowledgeable staff. I buy ingredients there but I have zero experience with their kits. Based upon the overall quality of the shop I would assume that they sell good kits.

    Cheers!

Thanks a lot guys, going to use a few kits until I feel comfortable on making my own but it sounds like Keystone will be the way to go until then.

Just to pile on. I don't know their kits. But I do get down to Keystone a few times a year. They are a rare (IMO) commodity, a homebrew store staffed with knowledgeable people. If they are building kits, my guess is that they are doing it right.

I've used a couple of their kits, and the beers have turned out very well.

I usually try to make it out there every few months to stock up (basemalt, specialty malts that I know I will use, caps, whirlfoc and other odds and ends), more often than not, they're building kits. The beer samples from the fridge next to the malt counter are almost always kit beers, and usually pretty tasty.

Keystone is my local store that I get all my supplies from and took their beginner class a year ago when I started. They live up to their reputation as the best homebrew store around. I only bought a kit for my first batch (the Coffee Porter) and it was good. But since their employees are very knowledgeable, I would certainly trust any kit they put together.
