APA always too thin

    Do your other beers finish where you expect in terms of body and mouthfeel?


    I don't like throwing extra ingredients at symptoms, better to identify the underlying problem

    If I use oatmeal it is typically 10%. I usually only use it in my RIS.

    I had a dial type thermometer that was accurate at freezing and boiling , but off by 10 degrees between 130 and 160. For several batches I could not figure out what the hell was going on until I bought 2 lab thermometers and checked it against them at mash temp...although my issue was most likely a rare occurance.

    That sucks. :slight_smile: I'll try to get another thermometer to double-check.

    As for final gravity on my previous batches, I got down to 1.011ish on all my other batches, and expect the same for this batch. I honestly think I need to either get away from American 2 row for a while, or I need something malty to help my beers feel balanced. I also like the idea of raising the mash temp--but not in tandem with MO or a heavier malt.
