Heard they are putting together a pretty serious tap list next Saturday for their 4th anniversary party. Does anybody have any information on what they will crack??

On a side note, next weekend is shaping up to be pretty beerific in Portland.

I actually stopped by for the first time in over a year the previous weekend (they had a Barley Brown DIPA I really wanted to try), and didn't hear a word about the event, and there were no signs up. So I'm surprised to hear about this (and so sorry, I don't have any further information I can provide).

Last year was pretty awesome. I haven't been to Apex since then. They'll probably put out a taplist that forces me to stop by. They were selling all kinds of bottles to-go, as well. Marked up like crazy, but if that's your thing...

I don't think any tap list has been announced...wondering if anyone has heard anything they might be having. They have had some incredible events in years past with FFF, Alpine, RR. Their twitter feed said it will be a list to remember.

Unless someone that works there wants to spill the beans, we won't know until the day of.

A couple years ago Jesse printed a list a couple days in advance so the bartenders could familiarize themselves with it. One of the bartenders let a customer make a copy. Jesse has not made a list in advance since. He wants it to be a secret.

That makes no sense to me.

Of course, the owner at Apex can do whatever he wants, and maybe he's so certain of getting a good turn out for this event, he doesn't need to advertise. That being said...

Most beer bar events I've ever attended, the owner absolutely wants people to know about the "special" tap list in advance, as that's how you garner interest. Sure, they'll sometimes mention the possibility of a few special extras as a tease, but I've never heard of any owner announcing an upcoming, speical event, but then refusing to divulge any information about the beer to be served until the day of the event.

Again, I'm just speaking for myself, but if I know in advance what a beer bar is planning to serve, and I know there's going to be some selections that I'm just dying to try, then I'll go out of my way to try to make sure I can attend. If I don't know what to expect, then maybe I won't make that effort. From what I can tell, and from what I've seen in the past, that's the way a lot of people operate... you want to know in advance that an event is going to have something on tap that is worth whatever effort or extra effort you have to make to attend it.

I'm sure Apex will do just fine regardless, and I'm really not trying to be critical here, but for the life of me, I would be curious to know how or why the owner thinks he will benefit by keeping the draft list secret for this event.

i think apex's motto speaks for itself. "drink beer, ride bikes, go f**k yourself."

Well looks like I will have to check it out and see for myself.

I have a bit of love hate with APEX. The cash only thing is annoying (seriously, its 2014) and the prices are always a little marked up (and sometimes A LOT marked up) . But their beer connections are very good and the special events I have attended there is always plenty of room and it is well organized.

Don't want this to turn this thread into yet another pissing contest regarding Apex's policies, so will try to keep my comments completely neutral.

I tend to agree with you that Apex's prices are a bit on the high side now, and so their cash only policy makes little sense to me as well. However, when they first opened, I thought their draft prices were some of the best in town, and so I understood and supported their cash only policy. Back in the day, they always had one beer that was specially priced as well (I recall seeing fat tire for $2.50), for those who didn't have much money but still wanted to drink good beer. I think they also had Hamms or PBR for $1.50 as well, and I always got a laugh out of their description of the beer on the menu (Cheap! Cold!).

Anyway, I could say more, but I'll leave it at that. I agree with you regarding the event. I'm sure they will have lots of good stuff on tap (if only because, they pretty much always have a lot of good stuff on tap).

The cash only thing it Apex is funny but is in line with their pompous Portland beer persona. If Apex was a famous person I see them as Justin Beiber

With the (often) surly bartenders, large format bottles lining the back wall, and cash-only thing, it's always struck me as a wannabe Toronado vibe rather than a pompous Portland thing.

There is nothing redeeming about J Biebs. At least the taplist is excellent at Apex.
