I have some Apollo hops that are burning a hole in my freezer. I have not used them yet, and would like to soon. I also have the plans to brew a BPA soon (apollo flavor and aroma), which is based off of a great BPA I brewed with Amarillo a few months back.

So, what say you all about this combination. Thoughts?

I like Apollo hops. I think I would go pretty gently in a Belgian Pale Ale, they are pretty strong and complex flavor wise.

So with all that and yeast too, I would go easy with them.

Not sure, I have used them for bittering an IPA a few times with Cascade as the late hop additions. This worked well as a citrus sub for centennial.

I have heard describe Apollo as citrus in flavor... but I dont have direct experience. I'm curious, follow up with an update. Its def worth a try...

NB lists them as "pungent citrus peel aroma".

I think these are well worth a BPA IPA you dig the citrus end of hops...

    Prost!

OK, I may have overstated things a bit :flushed: . I looked at my notes last night.

I made an all Apollo IPA, at "normal" hopping rates and my notes said "tropical with some grapefruit, then the tropical faded a bit and left a grapefruit/orange".

When I said it was agressive, it was an IIPA where I used up the rest of the Apollo I had, and I was very heavy handed in the boil and 5oz of keg hops. Since it was the last Apollo beer I made it is what stuck in my mind.

Hope this helps. Sorry for the misdirection.

FWIW, I brewed a killer BPA with crystal hops, which gave the beer a really fresh orange flavor and aroma. I loved it. Not true to style but the flavor played well with the esters and phenols.

That being said, Apollo is supposed to have a great orange flavor and aroma when used in relatively small amounts. My vote is for 'there is nothing wrong with this idea.'
