Hi BAs. Just wondering if I could call on some local help for a possible summer trip.

I have a relative in the Odessa/Midland area and I've previously searched establishments in that area. However, I'm wondering if anyone lives in the area and could tell me what they think is a good beer available in town. I may be able to have the relative pick it up and hold it for me for when I get down that way. (Especially if there are any rarities out down that way.)

Thanks in advance for helping out a guy stuck up north.

More like wasteland, period. The only reason either of these towns have the small population they do is because there is oil out there. lol

Are you by chance driving? You are 3 to 4 hours away from anything beer related.

You may want to consider this to be a BYOB trip if that is feasible.

Haha. Wow! Not much ambiguity in these posts.

In all seriousness, thanks for the speedy replies. While it's disappointing to hear this, it's also not entirely unexpected. I guess if it's a driving trip, I'll have to plan stops at places along the way/on the way back.

A few years ago my wife and I were in Midland, TX before heading to Big Bend National Park. We stopped at an outdoor sports store, Ski Skeller Sports?, for supplies and then popped into a nearby beverage store to check out the offerings. Between Bud, Mexican beer, Shiner, and Shiner knock offs, I did find a (then) decent supply of Avery products and that was about it. Good luck!

On a different note: You don't need apologies for posting in this region. Most of the BAs I have met around the state are friendly, helpful people. When you come through the state, give us a shout, we got ya covered!

    Cheers

Thanks folks! If I can make the drive, I guess I'll be hitting a few other places (I doubt any of that recently released WBA Double Pecan Porter is around now, let alone when I get down there).

I'll probably give you guys another holler for places with great tap lists. Really appreciate the help and kindness!

I am sure you could easily arrange an IP trade for it.

If/when I am able to head that way, I will definitely check things out to see if that is possible. Since I've always been apprehensive to pull the trigger on a trade via mail/Fed Ex, that would be doubly beneficial.

I forget where, but someone I talked to was recommending a few places. (I forget if it was Houston or Austin.) But it definitely sounds like I'd be smart to budget some time/money for visiting other places in TX.

    Thanks!

Houston top 4 for drinking: Petrol Station, Hay Merchant, Gingerman, the Flying Saucer.
Houston Bottle shops: Spec's downtown on Smith St, D&Q

    Cheers,
    Brian

^Thanks! I would love nothing more than to visit the bigger cities in Texas and try some great beer. (Oh, and maybe sight see a bit, but that's secondary. haha)

I see your profile says Ohio. I have family up there( I was born and raised in OH), and we do travel back and forth some. If you are driving into TX, there are basically two ways to come in, I35 will bring you through Dallas and Austin before you turn toward Midland, and I10 will bring you through Houston and San Antonio. I am from Houston, but have to say, if I could choose one city for beer in TX, it would be Austin, Houston and Dallas tie for 2nd...

Not to mention the bbq is better in the greater Austin area.

Very cool. What part of Ohio? I'm northeast and it's nice because I'm almost right in between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. How long have you been down there? I've had family in Texas for 12 years now.

Now that you say that, I think it was Austin he was telling me about, though, funnily enough, last year, I'd planned on going to Houston this past January. Since that didn't pan out, this would be a nice "rebound" trip.

I was pretty NE too, just north of Akron. I have been down here for 12 years myself, came down in 2000. When is your trip?
