No they are 32oz growlers. State of Florida only allows 32oz and Gallon growlers. If they put it in a 16oz bottle they have to cap it.

Just read through this thread because I am interested in the beer. I'm from the midwest so maybe it's a regional thing, but is this kind of thing done often down there? It seems ridiculous to me. If it's not supposed to be a bottle release environment, don't do growler fills. And if you can only fill 60 growlers of a highly anticipated beer why even do it? It's one thing to do limited releases, but 60 fills, come on. I have to imagine it will be a madhouse for those growlers (at least it would be in the midwest). I guess I don't understand why they don't just throw all of it on tap.

actually FL allows up to 32oz....so 16oz would be acceptable.

Well, this was an impromptu small thing that the brewery is doing for the benefit of the fallen Redhook brewer's family. It wasn't a long planned event, it's a couple of kegs people are wanting a lot of. It's a benefit thing and people should act accordingly. Don't get a growler of the BA MZ? Sucks, but donate $20 for that guy's wife and kid. Drink a flight of awesome shit and go home.

That's how I view it, anyways. People get too damn serious about this and we shouldn't.

beer geeks will be beer geeks...gotta catch 'em all!

we really do hope people drink these growlers fresh. the beer has already aged plenty, and the growlers won't be the best environment for them to age longer

I agree with you on this. The only problem is the drive is 5 hours each way for me. I would donate (via paypal) if they had a donation link, but to drive there I would definitely want to take a growler home with me (on top of donating). I am not upset that they are only doing a limited release, but I just can not justify driving 10 hours for the small chance of being able to get 1 growler.

This ... every other comment in this thread is about how many growlers can I get, how many are there, will there be enough for me, for me and my wife, math equations, yada yada ... you're still breathing, chances are your loved one hasn't died unexpectedly and breweries aren't having to raise money to donate to you to help you in a time of crisis ... look at the utter selfishness that resides within this thread and then feel sick about it bc it's pathetic.

This worldview forces one to donate everything one has and to make no selfish choices. Your anger is overdone and misplaced.

Let's be real: there are many causes worthy of donation. I'm going to participate in this one because of Cigar City's beer. Otherwise, I'd stay home. In that case, maybe I would donate, and maybe I wouldn't, since I have limited funds and there is a virtually limitless number of people in this world who could use some help.

Wow, misplaced? This worldview? This is a rather narrow focus that I have here ... the cause is to help out a guy who literally gave his life for beer, whether he ever meant to or not. It doesn't and shouldn't matter that he worked at a brewery up here ... he left behind a widow and a baby. In this thread, the very cause that CCB is doing this for has been completely overshadowed by what I mentioned above, selfishness.

You're right there are very many causes for donation ... however this being a beer forum full of beer advocates, I would expect a bit more considering the cause. This is a one-time event to offer up help for Ben Harris' family, however Brandy Zhukov will come out again. So, my point remains ... with frustration, not anger ... and it is certainly not misplaced. Perhaps by my username you can deduce what I do and then perhaps figure out why my "worldview" is as it is.

I wasn't referencing you at all, just a general frustration post based on the ridiculous shit I've been reading all through the forums regarding this release. Most want to 'catch em all' but it is more than that sometimes. People could be better BA's about it. At any rate, if I was able to even consider going, I'd be in the same boat as you. Pretty far. I do hope they're busy and the event makes a ton.

Not sure why you are getting so upset. When his death happened there was a long thread of well wishes, prayers, and condolences. No one is going to argue that this is anything less than a tragic event, especially leaving a widow and child. I commend CCB for doing a fundraiser for the family, but let's be honest who would expect anything less from CCB.

With that said, this thread was started for the beer. After all they did turn this into a quasi-release. Within the context of this thread, I don't see anything wrong with people trying to figure out their odds or weighing the pros and cons of going. As Bluecane said, there are an infinite amount of charities and causes to give money to. People, however, only have a finite amount of money. Sometimes people aren't naturally drawn to one charity over another so incentives are put out there. For instance, I am trying to raise money through the Red Cross for victims of the wildfire in CO. As an incentive, I created a lottery for donators to win some nice bottles. Do I care if they are just donating for a chance at the beer?... No. Do I look down upon people that don't participate?... No. My general assumption is that they have causes they donate to and mine just wasn't able to overcome those.

Also, I didn't know the guy so I could be wrong about this, but I doubt he would say he died for beer. My guess would be that he died providing for his family. I know a lot of beer lovers but I've still never met anyone who would literally sacrifice their life for beer.

You can't argue ethics ..... I have my opinions and they are what they are. For me, if my local brewery was doing an event to support the family of a guy who died within the realm of brewing, I'd go and support ... regardless of whether a release was going on or not.

I've said my piece and that will be that.

The OP says nothing about the charitable part of this. Even the subsequent posts don't describe the person who died and the circumstances until your post, really. As John said, consider the context of the thread. No one doesn't feel bad for anyone who dies, especially a young guy with a family.

You're post implied a broad context, especially for someone who didn't know the backstory, such as me.

That said, I'm sorry for starting a pissing match. I stand by most of my post now, and all of it given what I knew when I posted. But, my apologies if I seem like I was attacking you or anyone too harshly. I hope to see you at the event and I can give you a pour from a BBL North Carolina beer I'm bringing along

It's not supposed to be a release for people to drive 5-6 hours each way for. I have to imagine that this was intended for a low-key, Sunday, good cause kind of thing. But beer geeks the way they are turn it into something much more. Maybe they are actually trying to discourage people driving in and beat it back a bit to benefit the locals. Eh? Eh? Eh?
Bt seriously, No way I would even drive 2 hours each way for this if I wasn't already going to be in town for the Cajun sour festival. I get where you are coming from but it is their beer and they can do what they want with it. Who are we to bitch if they only do 5 growler fills? Don't like it? Go make your own. I am going there to hang out with friends and drink some good beers. As stated by others, come back to the real purpose of this whole thing.

No one is bitching about the amount in such a way that they are somehow upset with CCB; rather, most were saying, and seemingly being criticized for saying, that they want information so they can make an educated decision.

Heck, you yourself just said you wouldn't even drive 2 hours each way for it!
