I agree the vanilla was very sweet and not as complex. I think it had the most vanilla flavor of any beer I've had. Chili is not my favorite flavor in beer, so I think that's why I liked them so much. The base stout is really solid.

As long as you're taking orders....... a case sounds good.

Un-Spiced Bomb! is the base Imperial Stout that goes into all the barrels.

That sequence makes sense, but then you'd think all the barrels would be labelled Noir, since the barrels don't yet have the flavorings that would change them from Noir to Bomb. Obviously Prairie can do it however they want, but I wonder why they chose to label the barrels Bomb even if some never get the added flavors and thus don't actually become Bomb. [shrug]

Edit: maybe the best barrels are pulled aside for Noir so as not to be covered up by the extra flavors? For those more familiar with Prairie than me, has Noir been around as long as Bomb? Maybe they only later decided to release some Bomb-destined barrels without the extra flavors since they liked those barrels as-is? Thus, all the barrels are labelled Bomb because they don't yet know which get pulled aside for Noir. Yep, I'm thinking about this way too hard.

I think this could be possible. I know that the first time they made Bomb! was in '13. Really not sure about Noir

I think that is a good rationale and would make sense. I also think they just like to mess with all of us as it leads to threads like these haha.

Or they aren't even trying to mess with us & we just over-think these things because we're hopeless beer nerds.

Not that it matters at this point, but I’m gonna chime in and say that AB Noir has been strongly branded into my memory as probably the most unique and DEFINITELY decadent beers I’ve ever had.

In short, it’s one of those beers that, the first taste alone, can turn your day around, no matter how rotten your mood (at least in my experience a few years back).

I haven’t hounded over releases in a few years, but this one, I’ma hound hard!!

You aren't missing anything with the deconstructed series. The coffee is pretty good on it's own, but the rest of them are not so great, The sum is definitely better than it's parts.

I ended up getting a 32oz growler of both the coffee and chocolate on two separate weekends, and while I kinda enjoyed the coffee, I didn't think the chocolate was much good. They are supposed to have the chili version on tap next, but I think I'll pass, unless they'll fill up my 16oz thermos with it. That way I'm not in for 32oz. Somehow, I don't think that'll fly.

Thanks! I'd still kinda like to try the vanilla one, but I'm not going to go out of my way for it.

The cocoa was ok, but it tasted like eating a spoonful of Nesquik powder to me.

The chili is not even worth it unless the taste of dry chili powder appeals to you. It was completely unpalatable to me.

I won't say the vanilla isn't worth a taste, but it had to me what seemed to be a very artificial flavor that came off as overly boozy. It is very clear they are not using anything even remotely resembling an actual vanilla bean. I suppose I never assumed otherwise, but it is very clear when you put it on it's own.

    Coffee > Cocoa > Vanilla > Chili

Interesting break down. I'm certainly not going to step out of my way for any of them.

The cocoa was certainly interesting. It tasted like lots of baker's chocolate and chocolate powder to me.

When I originally heard about the series, I figured they'd glam each part up a bit, but that doesn't appear to be the case. It truly is the base beer + that flavor.

Could they still be the same base beer if the abv is different? Noir is also listed as an oatmeal stout where Bomb makes no mention of oats.

Good point. Don't know why that's not been brought up. I honestly forgot they used a "huge amount of oats" in Noir!

Oh man. My hopes have been raised so high. I really hope for an Apple-Brandy release in the near future.
