I put together some data about posts in appreciation threads over the past few years to see if there are trends in certain styles of beer. These are ordered (left to right) based on the number of posts in 2025. Some thoughts: 1) Stouts dominate again 2) Barleywine posts have fallen every year - are they losing popularity? 3 The German and IPA threads (new this year), as well as the lager thread (second year) were quite popular 4) Belgian beers bounced back a bit from a low last year Any predictions for 2026? Another question is whether the number of posts in a thread actually reflects the popularity of a beer. Maybe in some cases, but I'm sure not in others. If everyone posted their IPA in the IPA thread, I'm sure it would take the lead. It will be interesting to see if this thread in particular grows in 2026!

R.I.P Definitely not planning on starting the ISIL thread, we all know who the king of this shit is, so you feel free.m to do the honors or @MadMadMike ( like last year) or @Whyteboar can do it. . I think that Imperial Stouts are a very small niche with a big fandom seeing that it's usually the same 10 or so people keeping it alive ( no thanks to Mr.NBW @2beerdogs ) and posting a few times a day. I don't care what ipa,pale ale yadda yadda someone is drinking so never check nbw or wbayrnandnynadn as much all I wanna see are Imperial Stouts and 2 times a year Maybe BW. I could see the Imperial Stout thread increasing from 2025, but let's not fragment it into Pastry and non-pastry. For that matter, let's just make the thread stouts, not just imperial. Or do they have to be imperial to be life?
Yeah, I would agree with that interpretation. Stouts are very popular with a smaller group of people.

Yes. Lower beer stout = death And pastry stout is just celebrating diabeeetus. No fun in that. If the thread kicks off as an overall stout thread then so be it and ill see myself out the door . Same with Diabeetus stouts. This site is about ALL beer though so I guess ALL STOUTS MATTER Hey that's a good name for the thread
Good stuff @Beersnake! I'll definitely be starting another German thread for 2026. It proved more popular than I thought and I like that it have some of our BA's in Germany an opportunity to give us some local insight. My Saison thread died an early death but the Belgian one proved to be a better spot for it.
We should definitely break up the ISIL thread to Impy Stout, Wimpy Stout, DSS-Stout, and Controversial Stout. Not that the Smoked Beer thread needs any help to Hoo Ri Gi ISIL. Ki-hup! C’MON GUYS….. LET’S SMOKE ‘EM !!
HA! I do love me some IPA's. And I DO love NBW. But I will posit that NBW participants post a nice variety of beers there. I have even chimed in with a Saison in the past (believe it or not). But I will not chime in with Coors Banquet, even though that may pique your interest.
The Pastry got designated recently. Lots of us drink them. R88 started ISIL already and gave shit for adjuncts showing up. Pastry Stout Is Living is up and running. Let’s do this!
