Every Dogfish Head bottle I've seen has the mm/dd/yy on it, but this one just says 2013E. I know it's fresh but what does the E mean?
Yeah, it's a shame, DFH has actually gone backwards with consumer-friendly date coding. Some of their bigger beers and/or occasional releases are now dated in that manner. I thought they were doing it chronologically - the first batch of the year "A", then "B", etc., but an "E" only 2 full months into '13 doesn't make much sense.
Good question, Ill be at the brewery this weekend, if no one speaks up before then I can ask on the tour!
From what I understand, anything that is not available year round just has a year stamp on it. The year round offering have month/day/year dates on them. Since aprihop is a seasonal it only has the year. Not sure what the E stands for but I have seen it on every DFH bottle that only has a year stamp on it.
Its annoying when a beer such as 75 minute isn't labeled, and its released sporadically throughout the year. I bought, what I thought was a 2013 75 minute, that turned out to be an obvious 2012 75 minute. It tasted horrendous. And to top it off, the store was gouging for it at $15.
When can we give you your own sub forum? It would be the only one needed for 75% of the questions asked on this site. I'm sure this has been discussed before. Thanks for your knowledge
I too am curious as to whether that last letter is anything useful as far as the bottled date goes. It doesn't reference a month, maybe a batch? But then again I've gotten in multiple cases of a seasonal on the same shipment and some will have A's, B's, E's, G's, etc. Dunno...
It's in keeping with their off-centeredness. They will be forgoing conventional dating and using E, M, and L to indicate whether something was bottled early, middle, or late in the year.
