Montucky is just fun to say. It is funny and perfectly clumsy.

I love 12oz servings. If you must (brewers) put them in 12oz 4PKS.

Locally, Wormtown does both 16oz 4 packs cans and 12 oz 6 pack bottles of Be Hoppy. I generally go for the six packs which are priced, I believe, a little less than a dollar more then the 4 packs. As most everything else is in the 16oz/4pk, it is nice to drink out of the bottle while enjoying this beer. But, without question, the 16oz/4pk format dominates the market in my area.

16oz cans are fine for session beers, but its a bit annoying replacing the 6pk/12oz for a 4pk/16oz and leaving the price the same but giving me less total beer and less sessions with that beer. But man, it's brutal when breweries are packaging double IPAs and imperial stouts in 16oz 4 packs. It's just a chore. halfway through the can it stops being fun

Anyways to answer your question I suspect it's the way of the immediate future. I can think of only one local brewery out of 12-15 that isnt doing 4pk/16oz cans, and seeing big brands like Sierra Nevada and Bells now offering that format as well.

Can we just get more 8.4oz cans?

Personally, I really like 16 oz cans. It's just the right amount of beer for me. And try such a variety of beers, I don't mind the 4 packs. I always seem to have two 12 oz beers hiding in the back of the fridge from something I had to buy a 6 pack of just to try. Rarely have that with the 4 packs.

I prefer 12 oz over 16. The 16 is just too much to gulp down on a lot of occasions. For higher abv beers I have to share the 16 oz can, which is fine when someone around here wants to split it, not so much when (as is often the case) that person takes a pass. And, as has been pointed out, the 16 oz beers usually end up costing more per oz. New smaller breweries now exclusively use the 16oz can, which means I drink less beer from the smaller breweries--sadly.

And--whatever happened to shorties? On occasion I used to like the 8 ounce format (or 25cl in Europe). Bring 'em back!!

Thanks for the courtesy, exactly a quarter of a liter. Would complement perfectly our one third and one half liters.

That is .3 oz too much beer for me. Depending on ABV, of course.

Came to think about that the 16 oz 473ml is going in the 'right' direction from 'our' 16.9 oz 500ml, that is, going a bit smaller. There is a reason for that 18 oz hasn't become standard.

The US brewing industry has been using 16 oz. (pint) cans since the 1950s, often labeled "half quart", like the original from Schlitz - at the time (but not for much longer) the largest brewer in the US.
Schlitz sold them as sixpacks, which not every brewer did. :grimacing:

Shame on Jacks Abby for going from 6X16 to 4X16!

I prefer 6X12 format (cans or bottled) but these breweries can sell less beer for more$, so cant blame them there.

Hi-Wire prices are also pretty cheap compared to most using the 16oz format. $11-12 6 packs of 16oz cans around here, cheaper than most breweries are selling 4x 16oz.

I wish most German breweries would produce less of the 11.2 oz bottles and focus more on the 500 ml can format, especially for their helles lagers and pilsners. Paulaner and Weihenstephaner definitely went in a good direction with this.

I don’t really mind the 12 oz format for higher ABV domestic beers like IPAs, IIPAs, stouts, etc.

Maybe the Germans are realizing that they made a mistake trying to match the typical 12 oz. format in our market. Moving to the 500 ml (half liter or 16.9 oz.) would be okay with me. Just get them to me fresh.

Best of luck to you here.

It has been a looooong time since I have seen packaged German beer "fresh" at my local beer retailers.

    Cheers!

P.S. I have not purchased Jever in a few years since every time I pick that beer up I promptly put in back down since they are old.

Insofar as packaged, Craft Beer is concerned, this* format had been the “way of the future” in Minnesota for the past fourteen years, pioneered largely by Surly Brewing.

In more recent years, 12oz, 6-pack cans (and even more recently, 12oz Twelve-packs) have become even more common.

To this end I would think that the larger, 16oz canned packaging will eventually give way to the smaller, much as 22oz “bomber” bottles (mostly) gave way to 12oz, six-packs about twenty years ago.

Ot course, with the aluminum shortage, glass might very well make a comeback!

    *16oz,4-pack cans, that is. :sunglasses:
