Are all Hazy IPAs mostly the same?

Yeah it’s not super hazy, but it’s very tasty

Pretty good list, might have to pop in this weekend.

Perhaps, it has been mentioned already in the thread, perhaps not? Anyway, I’ve really enjoyed Sierra nevada’s hazy little thing. I know it’s not local, but I don’t get the local PNW hazies in the Tri-cites. My only other hazy was fremont’s BS 20, which I really enjoyed as well.

Side note, I bought the cans at the infamous Mid Columbia. They just came in. Figured they were brand spanking new. Got them home, then noticed canned on 11/28. Uh oh, hazy ipa a few days short of 2 months old, won’t be good according to the commentators on this subject matter. Older than two weeks is bad, right?

You tell us. The big deal about SN releasing one is they they would be targeting more stability, so the conventional rules may not apply. I thought the 2 week limit was over the top to start, like people years ago saying the same thing about Pliny.

2 weeks is my limit to buying something but that is in part because it may end up sitting for longer than that in the fridge. I thought Sierra Nevada's hazy was well done and a good way to get general beer drinkers into hazy if they haven't paid much attention. It is quite possible for someone who only buys beers at grocery stores to not really know about the hazy IPAs. My friend works at a grocery store so he mostly shops there and he is hooked on Sierra's hazy. It is far better than most small breweries' first attempts at making something hazy.

Ecliptic Phaser Hazy IPA is pretty damn good and it's only $9.99 a six pack. The one i bought yesterday at New Seasons was canned on the 26th of Jan so it's fresh.

Meant to add a  at the end of my post. The HLT were really good (even at 2 months old). Will grab another sixer if I see it. Probably be the same batch.

Just to muddy the waters further, I've had a few hazy IPAs which actually got better after that anecdotal two-week freshness window. Last year's Fort George 3-Way, for instance, was a better beer a month after canning than it was a week after canning.

Your mileage, as always, may vary.

Breweries that brew hazy IPAs the proper way usually release them a bit green so that they improve after a few weeks. This is how it is for Monkish, Modern Times, Other Half, etc. I assume Tree House would be the same. So it doesn't surprise me that Fort George would be similar because they also brew proper hazy.

I had a 16 oz can of Ex-Novo We're Going to Need a Bigger Boat a Hazy IIPA.
    Really delicious stuff.
    Best yet from Oregon

I have made great strides in eliminating FOMO from my life, but over the past two weekends I have struck out at a dozen places in search of Ecliptic's new seasonal hazy IPA, Phaser.

I have come to expect the now-familiar conspicuously blank slot on the shelf next to abundant six-packs of Starburst (itself a fine go-to IPA).

As Khan might have said, "This tasks me."

What the hell, people? Don't you have any Grape Lotion crowlers to chase after?

Get off my lawn, etcetera etcetera.

New Seasons! It's $7.99 right now, all canned beer is 20% off through the weekend.

I ran into the same thing with Silver City’s Tropic Haze and Ft George’s City of Dreams when they first came out, but then the fervor died out and the beer was easy to find again. You’ll probably see the same thing happen here.

The New Seasonses in my area (Orenco, Cedar Hills) both had those conspicuous empty spaces next to the Starburst 6-packs, but I will continue looking further afield.

I expect this is exactly the case with Phaser. This is the first time anything by Ecliptic has proven challenging for me to find. Most of the store employees I've talked to have been surprised by the speed that stuff has been flying off the shelves.

I've been told by my distributor that the beer is so popular at the price point they're selling it at that they're canning it, packaging it, loading it onto a truck to drive across the street to Maletis and it's literally selling out on the dock.

Phaser will be a crapshoot until the hype dies down. For what it's worth though, the hype is warranted as it's a delicious beer and extremely affordable considering the trend we're seeing towards $20+ four packs.

Ah well. In the "whole lotta fish in the sea" category, I tried the hazy version of Eliot at Ex Novo today, and it was delicious.

(Side note: I also got to try Coconut B-Bomb, so there's a lot to be said for waiting until the hype has passed. I have to believe Ecliptic will keep making Phaser in good quantities as long as it keeps selling briskly.)

I’ll second this, and concur with the earlier comment that it’s becoming more and more difficult to distinguish between the various Crush releases from Reuben’s. I think the issue is that the Crush series seems to be driven by the identical yeast strain, with only the hop varietal changing each time. Other hazy IPAs like this from Reuben’s (the international style juice collab with Alvarado Street in particular stands out...) that were not in the Crush series have been amazing, with a much cleaner taste to me and ones that you could truly put up against Treehouse, Trillium, Monkish, or Alavardo St. Not at all to say that I don’t like Crush, to the contrary. It’s really refreshing and a great choice to offer something unique from Crikey and Triumvirate. Just another interesting intricacy in the development of this style out here.
