Are all Hazy IPAs mostly the same?

Heads up, this batch isn't hazy. I don't care but some of the backlash online is crazy.

Also looks like Fort George made a lot of more of this than Abigail or Brutus. I bought a four pack at Whole Foods up here in Seattle and then saw some at my little mom and pop neighborhood pharmacy. I never saw cans of Abigail and only saw Brutus once at Bottleworks when I bought a can.

Oh no, what fresh hell is this? Lol. If it tastes good, I'm good, but that's funny that people are freaking out already.

It’s not hazy, but it’s delicious! The haze fanboys make me laugh, who gives a shit if it isn’t hazy if it tastes good.

Grabbed a Phazer last night. Thin, hazy in appearance only. OK sessionable light IPA or more of a hoppy american wheat imo.

Exactly my take as well. It was on tap at the horse brass last Sunday, so I got a sample glass. Not terrible by any stretch of the imagination, but nothing to right home about either. I likely wouldn't order a full glass of it.

Grabbed a 4-pack of the new Head Full of Dynomite at Fremont today. This batch is Vic Secret and Columbus hops. I got stuck behind an indecisive couple ordering a flight, so the guy working the bar gave me a free half pour for being patient. Waaaaayyy better than the last batch.

Put me in the camp that really digs this beer. Granted it’s only my second hazy beer (SN hazy little thing was first). Picked up a couple of six packs at Mid Columbia wine and spirits (Kennewick; side note: I had quite the haul - Fremont dark star, barrel aged victory at sea, and to try a third haze - NB ranger juicy haze). They were canned on Feb 20th. The moment I opened the can my nose was bombarded with fruity aromas that were quite pleasing. Taste was similar. This may be my beer of choice come March 15 - 18th.

Just to speak on the topic though, I can see how the hazes all taste similar, just based on the two I had. So, no expert. I can also see why people like them. On a last note, not a haze, but if you come across White Bluff’s NOG (ipa) order it and thank me later.

Agreed, but probably as I'm not a big fan of the pepperiness than comes from the Ekuanot hops used in the prior batch.

Interesting. I think it's probably the worst IPA I've ever had from Fremont. Overwhelming vegetal green Columbus hop burn. I hope that fades over time.

At least we all have no shortage of options to try!

This was off the draft version that didn’t have any of that green hop burn (I know those feels). I haven’t cracked a can yet.

Had the NOG tonight. Maybe it is a haze? Seems similar in appearance to the three hazes I have had. Perhaps a mash up? Regardless, I find it amazing.

Sam Adam's 'New England IPA' started showing up in the PNW the past few days. Priced as low as $8.99 for a 4-pack (16oz cans), this is not a bad option!

The presence of Galaxy, Simcoe, Mosaic, Citra, and Cascade hops produced a surprisingly smooth and easy drinking beer at 6.8% ABV.

Some might consider Sam Adam's a borderline or straight up "Macro" brewery. Regardless, their New England IPA is pretty tasty. Of course, the key will be finding fresh cans (ie Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing).

*(Between Sam Adam's New England IPA & SAM '76, pleasantly surprised lately)*

reubens crushed in the mail is tasty. UF/3M Hoperation carrot juice is gimmicky and tastes like every other 3M ipa imo, but it's definitely a different experience visually.

The only truly good #hazebro IPA I've had from Fremont is BS, from last yr (brewed for Belmont Station's anny)—definitely didn't have any of that hop burn. Not sure why they seemingly ditched that recipe... The HFoD stuff is fine, but still not even remotely comparable to exemplars of the style, which imo are mostly still coming from the east coast. Best hazy IPAs I've had over the past couple years were all shipped to me from, shockingly, New England. That said, the PNW will get to that level, eventually. Brewing these beers isn't magic.

(A couple of those Patterns cans were top-notch, especially that triple, which drank like a double for sure. #ItllGetchaDrunk!)

Three Magnets is a brewery that I legitimately dislike mainly due to the fact that most of their beers are at at least 7% ABV and lack anything resembling subtlety. I had one of their Hazy IPA's last fall that I legitimately took two sips of and poured the rest out. It was an awful unbalanced bitter mess. I stopped by their brewery on the way down from Seattle all the samples I had were overly strong beers that were average at best.

Little Juice Smoothie Edition is nice but I haven't been impressed by their other IPAs.

Are many really trying to directly imitate the NE Hazy?

I honestly don't know for sure, but I got the impression most have gone for a NW IPA / NE IPA hybrid of sorts.

I'd love to try more local hazy's that went for a milder hop bill.

Me too. Given how much I liked Little Juice, I thought for sure I'd like some of their other IPA's (hazy or otherwise) as well. Hasn't happened so far I'm afraid.
