First off people like craft beer because it tastes good and gets them buzzed. There is nothing more to discuss here.

I consider myself a "beer drinker" that is I drink a lot of beer, mostly craft and have an understanding of beer in general. I think its stupid that for me to order something other than BMC makes me a nerd, or geek, or ***** or whatever derogatory term generic alcoholics throw at craft beer drinkers.

Back to the articles content which is pretty bad..

"whether you are called a beer nerd, beer snob, or whatever, the fact is, you are probably just ignorant"

Yup and it is Bliss, know that.

All that article says is anyone who refers to themselves as a "beer need" OR is a participating member of this site is "ignorant". My thoughts? The author is just a hater. Those are my thoughts. And he's way too concerned with defining "beer need", "beer snob", and a bunch of other arbitrary terms.

Neither of you guys included the full quote. They stated you're ignorant IF

"If you enjoy offering an unsolicited dissertation about beer to those that don’t know as much about beer as you, or, if you like creating an online handle to use a thesaurus and a plethora of adjectives to discredit someone’s work constructively"

They didn't say, "If you're a beer nerd you're ignorant."

A Beer Advocate has the moral obligation to head-butt a Beer Snob. On the other hand, a Beer Advocate is only morally obligated to inflict a noogie on a Beer Nerd. Both points could just be the Backwoods Bastard talking.

People making purchases based on reviews & the mystery of what's in that box behind the counter. If you're buying a Blue Moon Sample pack & Lime-A-Rita don't buy up the limited releases because it looks neat & someone behind you won't be able to buy it who actually knows what they're buying. Sorry, I ranted.

Thoughts? The author needed to fill space and so made up some inconsistent stuff based on very little of substance except hand waving and blowing smoke.

First, I personally have never overhead someone doing unconstructive criticism of another customer's selection of beer (but I am willing to admit it might happen).

Second, there is no fragile separation between fad and trend such that a fad falling apart can destroy a trend. Fads can exist on their own before they fall apart and a trend may create a companion fad that rides along on top of it, but there is no fragility in a trend even when the fad goes away or falls apart. Its happened before. It'll happen again.

Third, anybody who thinks craft beer is a fad is not a very perceptive observer of what is going on in the beer world and the world of food in general or simply doesn't understand what a fad is.

Stopped reading after this sentence. Of all of the things that don't happen, this one is one of the don'test. It sounds like this guy had a bad experience on BA and decided he was going to really sock it to us by writing this article. He raises a few good points, but since the piece seems to be dripping with disdain, it's really hard to find them.

Could be...though I don't know why someone who writes for a craft beer magazine would hate craft drinkers.

It's just an obnoxious article, nothing is ruining craft beer except for the black market

On the flip side.... see those shelves stocked full of various selections of craft beer? Guess who demanded that they be there? I'm definitely a beer nerd but I sure as hell wouldn't publicly belittle someone for not being as informed as me or others here...

Anything written out of hate or spite usually lacks any valid points, this article proves that for sure.

Sorry, but I don't read opinion articles that can't be bothered to attribute said opinion to an actual AUTHOR.

Any article that lacks an author is most likely going to use a lot of words to say very little. This one was no different.

I like how he's basically saying that beer nerds have ruined the fun in beer, yet he's incessantly ranting for a dozen paragraphs trying to contrast a "beer nerd" and "beer snob" and on and on and on.

To a certain degree, I would say yes.....wine snobs have ruined wine for many people. Going to a wine tasting, or even ordering from a sophisticated wine list is intimidating for many would be wine lovers.
I am not saying I think this is a good article, but I know of a few drinking establishments tht intimidate the average consumer.
