Well many are brewing something called a saison, but I tend to disagree if the beer is black in color it can be a saison, but hey what do I know....some are putting in all kind of flavorings in them. thai basil saison is not a saison to me.:grimacing:

Now that I think of it, the saison was in the spring variety pack. There was a Belgian session in the summer pack

Seems like every brewery in MA is making a saison or variation of it. I just wish that one of the good ones came in 6-packs. I'm not really sure why this particular style is held with high prestige when it's brewing history came from the working class. Not saying the flavor comparison is the same but imagine if Budweiser came in $10 corked 750s.

GD Collette is a decent one that comes in 6-packs. A little higher in abv than I'd like it to be though.

Saisons are nowhere near as common in Belgium as most of you would probably think.

Definitely seeing more and more around the shops. I would contribute that to it being summer now, and that is a particular beer style we see in the warmer months, much like stouts in the winter. I also believe it's a style that's gaining popularity, so we are now seeing so many more varieties and by many more breweries around the US. I also wish more breweries would keep the ABV down...

They're easy to find in MA. In addition to the handful of ones brewed outside of MA that we get here, a number of local breweries brew them. Pretty Thing's flagship beer is a saison. And we even have a local brewery (Mystic) who specializes in them...about 50% of what they make are saisons.

I agree that it's annoying most of them are in big bottles only. It would be great if Jack D'Or or one of Mystic's offerings could come in 6 packs.

If you can't find something like Hennepin at your go-to store, that's trouble.

That came with Maple Pecan Porter, Double Agent IPL, White Lantern, and three regulars. I haven't seen the Rustic Saison yet.

True. Between Logsdon, Upright, pFriem, and The Commons we are swimming in great local saisons and other Belgian style beers in Oregon

Live in Colorado. Every year there is a "Saison Fest" at Trinity brewing. The brewer there calls himself the
"Saison Man". There are a bunch of local Saison/Farmhouse beers available in CO.

I agree with you about black saisons, but adding spices is often part of the style. If the brewer wants to add a unique spice like thai basil, I don't see how that changes the style.

We have a decent amount available, primarily due to the proximity to Quebec whose breweries brews mainly in the Belgium tradition.

Pretty easy to get in St Louis... 4 hands, 2nd shift, and Perennial put out some good local ones on a regular basis... you can also get Tank 7 and Sophie almost anywhere.

OP, fellow Evergreen-stater Draheim undoubtedly has more knowledge than I, but we have a decent assortment of Saisons available in the PNW. Brasserie Dupont, Boulevard, and Logsdon are all readily available. Hell, I even liked Victory Swing...search high and wide my friend!

I forgot about a beer store just outside of Memphis when I said we only had one in the area. I stopped by there on the way home from work and found Saison Dupont. I picked up a 4-pack, so I'll be trying that tonight.

Delaware Valley (Phila region) Yard's Saison and Dogfish Noble Rot are local, Ommegang Hennepin widely available, as is Saison DuPont. Seventeen, Fantome, DeLente, Allagash Interlude, Smuttynose Farmhouse less so, but still around.

How could I forget Victory Swing? Although in much smaller quantities than you'd think given Victory's local status. Tends to sell out quickly.
