I'd be more receptive to a light ipa than a session ipa. No use hiding what it really is.

If anyone has a chance to get it, which is tough bc it is only distributed in Iowa & Nebraska, Soundcheck IPA by Peace Tree is an excellent Session IPA

I used to not be into SIPAs, but at the end of the day, sometimes I just want a less-filling beer that still has hop flavors. I'm also a fan of craft pilsners, but even those are rarely as light as most SIPAs. I don't mind having the option.

Totally surprised this isn't mentioned more on this thread. I guess having been on the West Coast, I haven't tried Boat Beer. But EK is unbelievable at 3.8%

I only enjoy a handful of session IPAs, but I really dig this one. And at 3.8% abv, it's a true session beer. You can get your hop fix, and actually have a six pack and be reasonably sober. Who knew?

How would you describe the body/mouthfeel of Even Keel?

    Cheers!

Yes, and if the style really catches on, it will continue to improve. Sales will bring new players into the market and, with them, new ideas.

I recently had Even Keel and it was excellent. Sunshine Daydream is always great, just had one last night. So good.

Good session IPA's are the best for summertime, beach time, and similar occasions. I keep a steady supply of Lawson's Super Session #2 now since its been pretty regularly available. All Day is great, Citra Sunshine Slacker, Baby Genius (not called a SIPA), Forever Green, Easy Jack. Many good options, and seems like most brewers are trying to produce a good low ABV option while maintaining flavor.

I'm in the camp that no session IPA comes close to a good IPA, however Even Keel has become my go to session due to the impressively low ABV. To me, it tastes boring just like all of the other sessions, but no worse than the ones that are at least 1% stronger. Sometimes I just want a beer I can drink more than 2-3 of in one sitting and isn't a light pilsner.

Thats why I like session ipas. If I wanted a beer with more body i would drink an apa.

I just call them mild pales, if it feels/tastes thinner than a regular pale or IPA.

Not sure what the correct categorization is, but I love the Two Bros. Sidekick, which to me falls along these lines.

I think a lot of it comes down to mind set. if you want a bitter hop bomb, don't grab a session. if you want a crisp refreshing brew with some personality, then a session sounds right. I almost prefer hoppy pale ales to sessions just for the better, less watery feel.

To me- it sorta follows the name, actually. Sort of a smooth, lightly frothy mouthfeel when it first hits the tongue...and then this dissipates, leaving you with slightly crispier finish and a mouthful of flavor (you can really taste the beer as the mouthfeel shifts from frothy to crispy). There's a strange dankness to the aftertaste which I personally like (mixed with a taste of spices & citrus), but I've heard some others aren't a huge fan of this dank element. Regardless, one of the most complex <4% beers I've ever tried IMO.
