Are Shipyard and Magic Hat struggling?

You’d think this wouldn’t be hard to figure out, but some people seem to think these breweries with large production just sell the beer to distributors who pour it down the drain or something.

 

So have we figured out if SY and/or MH are struggling or not??

My vote is yes on both accounts obviously. For what it's worth, I found 18 places with Magic Hat on tap in Burlington. Unless you count South Burlington too.

The list starts going into South Portland.

Shipyard is on tap in more places than I originally thought.

And they’re probably still in trouble.

 

I've had some dumb, dumb arguments on this board and elsewhere but if I ever get to the point that I'm arguing about the amount of Shipyard taphandles in a given city I give any of you permission to shoot me.

I've never been wowed by Magic Hat, personally. I know I've had Shipyard but mostly 20+years ago, so I don't know what their M.O. has been recently.
My general observation is that too many brewers try to crank out too many different beers in search of an identity. Emphasize a solid core and tittilate with some small batch product if you want to survive.
I'm lucky to have a top-notch brewpub in town that understands this, although based on volume Steve and Heather will never earn the sort of return on Selin's Grove Brewing Company that they deserve based on quality.

 

I'm an accountant and I'd be happy to look at their books if someone wants to send me a financial statement.

Oh there's been FAR worse arguments and threads, I've been here since 2004, trust me. The session beer argument is probably King.

Although the users that you responded to have been here a decent amount of time (11 and 8 years, respectively), I think that a lot of casual users, especially newer ones, underestimate the mental endurance and love of conversing about beer that it takes to be an active user on boards like this. The repetition, at times, can become infuriating, but is a necessity. If a board is full of only vetted users, the conversation stalls. You've already talked about everything. If a board is full of new users, the conversation has spurious content. There's just not enough experience for the quality of conversation to be high. The sweet spot is, very truthfully, a board with a relatively small percentage of long term users to keep the conversation on point and a larger percentage of new(er) users to inject the energy needed to keep the conversations flowing. I guess the take away is that as frustrating as repetition is, if we didn't have it, these boards would be a ghost town.

I was also referring to how you debate with multiple people at once in a thread. I had an @EvenMoreJesus moment, and could empathize with that aspect.
