Does the site have a naming convention for beer names in regards to if the brewery name should be included in the beer name? The only thing I've seen related to this was "Enter the actual beer name, as defined by the brewery" on the Add Beer page.

I noticed that it gets a little difficult to find beers in the list on a brewery's page when both conventions are used, especially for ones that have a long list of beers. As an example, Bell's has 75 active beers, 45 of which start with Bell's and 30 of which do not.

When I've added beers in the past, I just followed the naming convention that was used for the particular brewery (or at least the majority of their other beers that were previously listed). Including the brewery name might be helpful in some instances, such as collaborations.

I've been confused by this as well, but as you said, I usual go with the predominant convention for that brewery. If I'm at a smaller place, I'll usually just go with how it's written on the board.

I would personally like to see the repeating of the name of the brewery done away with. If you click on Bell's, you shouldn't have to see the name Bell's before every beer.

Often a beer's brand name will actually include the brewery name and/or style (mostly for marketing purposes), but I agree that we need to create and enforce a straightforward naming convention; one that might have to override marketing too.

While I agree that naming standards are important for the site, I'm not sure how you could ever 100% eliminate the "brewery name" prefix on some. Would you just list "IPA" instead of "Stone IPA" or "Imperial Stout" instead of "Founders Imperial Stout". I'm sure there are thousands of beers in the database that don't have a "unique" name and simply are called "Pilsner" or "Porter" or "Saison" or whatever by their own brewers. Without a brewery name attached, these beers would be completely lost when searching the database, right?

I haven't put too much thought into this because the search feature will find it either way. I mean if I know which brewery I'm searching for info on, I'm going to enter that brewery. As for the "unique" names, they come up to. So for me, it's a minor pain upon entering a new listing, otherwise i don't think it's a big deal.

Yes. If you're looking at a list of Stone beers and you see "IPA" as one of the beers, it's the Stone IPA. Including the name of the brewery as part of the beer name is redundant and only serves to mess up the list in my opinion.

I think the reason there shouldn't be the prefix is because of possible redundancies when the a brewery actually does have a beer named after itself. Russian River has a beer called Russian River IPA. If Bells did that now it would have to be called Bells Bells IPA in order to keep with the convention. The brewery title in the beer's name should be reserved for when it's actually part of the name. Damn I want a RR IPA now.
