Sports and beer have been around at different times in my life. Back in the day when I played softball and hockey, there was always beer around after games, and you're starting to see more beer after running events these days. Bell's is a big sponsor for the Rock the Night 5k in Chicago every year. Plenty of Oberon, Amber ale and free swag to be had. I just wish they would step it up and bring some Two Hearted in the future!

With that said, I currently walk 3-4 miles at least five times a week and run 3.25-4.0 miles 3-4 days a week. I got to the point in my life where my metabolism started to turn on me and the pounds were adding up. It was a wise decision a few years ago to start moving again. I shed 60 pounds and I'm in the best shape that I've been in since I played a lot of sports. It's simple math with calories in, versus calories burned to maintain my fighting weight.

I'm a 4-5 times a week gym goer, resistance training, and some cardio...joints are getting too old to lift heavy

In line with several responses, I workout mainly for health reasons, but also so I can eat and drink what I want--within reason of course--and stay in reasonably good shape. Other than that I don't see any real correlation. I hit the gym 2-3 times a week and play basketball at least once. After re-hydrating and at least a small meal, I do enjoy a good post-workout beer.

Been running and resistance training since early teens (mostly because I had trouble keeping on weight for high school sports); so before I began drinking. Wouldn't say that I exercise now to offset the calories from drinking, and while I try to keep a responsible 80/20 diet primarily in efforts to be generally healthy/healthier, I probably combat drinking calories more by tightening up my eating habits, rather than thinking about calories when drinking. Goals when drinking include: enjoy beer, but not so much that I feel like shit in the morning.

Edit: I too average 1-2 beer a day.

Your reference to benches and squats reminds me that in a former life I was a power lifter and beer and pizza were our main supplements.

I exercise every morning, so there's no connection with beer, except if I have a hangover, coffee and exercise tend to banish it. I'm an amateur speed skater and once a week go to practice, which is grueling and leaves me bathed in sweat. The nanosecond I get home after, that's real beer time.

I don't exercise specifically because of beer. In fact everything that's really pleasant makes you lazy I think.

In my basketball league, we always go to the bar afterwords for beers. I wouldn't say we're doing that because we exercised, but as a team it's nice to bullshit after losing a game by 30 points (which we often do).

I am also a bicycle messenger, and beer and bikes go hand in hand, so in that case the exercise is totally relate-able to the amount of shit beer I will consume on a given race night.

    When I'm on..I lift/run 5-6 days a week..While I love to work out, I do admit it helps me enjoy 3-5 beers saturday/sunday.

One of best things about running a race is the post race beer(s).

I exercise as much as I can. If I didn't I would be as jolly and plump as Ol' St. Nick! From all the beers of course.

I had an Enjoy By after my small workout the other night. Break even I guess, but man the 12.25.15 is on point!

Direct correlation here. The more beer I drink the less I feel like exercising!

I rode my flat handlebar TREKs over 5100 miles in 2015. Now it is too damn cold to ride far or often.

Ditto. I was a runner before I got into craft beer, so the exercise pattern was somewhat already established. That being said, I definitely add an extra run in during the week to off-set the consequences of my weekend beer drinking, and I may even toss in a weekly 30 minute trip to the gym as well.

For me, the correlation between drinking and exercising is health based. I exercise to stay in shape, healthy, and burn off those empty calories from drinking. I average 2 beers per night (assuming 1=5% with most of not all coming on the Friday night-Sunday) so exercise helps me feel less guilty about drinking
