Why do you assume he meant me?
And if that is the case, I think I'll be alright.
I believe my trade references speak for themselves.

I don't think that I was "laying into you" at all.
You asked for someone to shed some light, and I was just giving my opinion (thought that's why you started the thread).
But it now looks like maybe you were only wanting replies from people that share your view(?)

Wasn't having a bad day at all - was actually getting ready to go to a kick ass bottle share.

FYI: Wild Peach is the real deal - ISO more!

Yes I got 8 King Sue
3 for the trade mentioned for 2 Beat (I hope to God that qualifies as a "fair" trade)
1 King Sue + 1 Sosus for IP trade with a friend for Atrial Rubicite (2:1)
1 is going for a + for another trade involving Assassin & BA9K (very stoked for that, btw!)
3 are going to friends who couldn't make the very long haul to TG on a weeknight

Which leaves absolutely zero for me - if that's ok with everyone who seem to care what I do with my beer.
I had a growler of it when it was tap only the first release, and figured to spread it around for others this time and to knock out a couple trades.
And yes - it was amazing.

    Anyway...
My main point was that KS is a really good beer that was pretty damn hard to come by.
There is none on shelves, and everyone I know wants some.
I just wish I could've got more to share with more people I know.

Yes, some people are asking the moon for it.
But this happens all the time with every really good beer that is really hard to get.
If it's too outrageous of an offer, then they'll figure it out - whether by crickets or thread shitters.

Anyone can feel free to criticize my opinions on this post as well, but I'll not rebut anymore.
I've better things to do with the rest of this day.

    Cheers!

I don't think anyone's trying to down play TG brews just to drive the price down. IMO HF stuff kills about everything on the market as far as IPA/dipa,s go, and HF isn't particularly expensive, but it is remote as hell, even from central Vt it's a haul, gravel roads, maybe undrivable in the winter. Personally I would have kept the HF, I thought Marks offer was more than generous both money wise and quality wise.

Rants aside, I can verify that this was the case. I was able to pick up four Assassin's and got zero King Sue's, and one of my local trading partners also got three Assassin's but was unable to get any King Sue. Quantities were tiny and it was gone ridiculously fast, both in the few stores that got it and at the taproom.

I don't know if the ISO/FT's going up are justified, but King Sue is a great beer and was very hard to obtain.

that's why I can't wait to finally try it, and why I put up Hill Farmstead growlers to do so

You will be very happy you did! If TG can produce it on a regular basis it should have no problem unseating heady at the top of the list. Picking up my bottles tomorrow from the most kind and generous beer drinking buddy one could ever hope for!

    Cheers

I've got a house in north central VT, and HF is (with no traffic) 2 hours and 8 minutes from there according to Google Maps (yeah, good luck doing it in that time, even in summer). I keep seeing the same argument over and over. KS isn't on shelves....well so? Nothing from HF has ever been on a shelf. Maine Brewing Dinner sold out in a day and the lines were 3+ hours long I heard. I am sure there are loads of beers like this, DL, Hunas, whatever. Some people say that means those beers should be more than $4$, some say otherwise. In this case though, HF for KS...you are talking beers of similar difficulty to acquire and similar sought after status.

It would be so nice for rarity/difficult access to be left out of the equation in trades. But getting real hard to find people to do $:$ trades now but it can be done.
Examples of recent trades I've gotten done at just $:$:
Traded an Assassin 1:1 for Cthulhu
Traded the Bullfrog Grzzz set for 2 2014 Assassins and 1 2013 Assassin

Sometimes it's all about good beer karma. I'll just give away TG, New Glarus (including the peach) and Dark Lord bottles when I have them and ask for nothing in return.

I'm with you, but $4$ only really works when the beers being swapped are at the same quality/availability level. Your examples above are perfect.

You wouldn't trade an Assassin for 2 6-packs of Sculpin, for example.

Very true, but it can depend on what the BA wants to drink. Having the wide taste variety that I do, if I didn't have access to sculpin, for your example, and had an extra Assassin I would probably do that kind of deal.

Example of that being I sent a buddy in buffalo earlier this year a Dark Lord and Darkness and only asked for some Ithaca and Long Trail IPAs in return.

also true, and very solid of you. that's why I find myself trading more & more with guys I've already established relationships with, rarity goes out the window and $4$ becomes the norm. one of my buddy's hooked me up with a 2nd Assassin, and said "I trust you" for what I send back. I'm sending back 3x $4$ anyway, just 'cause

    Good man!!
One of my best beer drinking buddies sent me the Bullfrog set for free and said "go get your Assassins". Needless to say @BBB gets an allotment of everything I pick up. Bottle of Assassin and NG peach are waiting as gifts for when we get together for a tasting.
The other amazing guy gets anything he wants from my cellar. Some of the things he's given me for free are Morning Delight, 2012 Assassin, 2014 Assassin and picks up any TG I want when I'm unable to make a trip. And that was just a guy I meet in the TG taproom one day, now he lets me crash at his house so I don't have to drive home.
I have faith in the community that trading can go back to normal soon enough.

Told my buddy who got me into craft beer to clear his plans tonight to share a bottle of Assassin plus he's getting a selection of new Glarus and a spencer trappist just because!

If it's so inconvenient for you to get, then why bother trading it?

    Never said it was inconvenient.
Just a very long road trip.

I did it cause I love Beat, and I wanted to hook some good people up that were out of town.

Gave my last King Sue away yesterday & it felt great.
    My friend was super pumped!
I got one Sosus left that I'm going to drink this weekend.
FWIW...I think Sosus is as good, if not better than King Sue.

Dang, I got flack on the trade forum for asking (and successfully so) 1:1 on some limited beers (SARA, SP, HF, JK) for Kern River Citra. Limit 2 at the brewery and sold on in a day; oh and KRB is in the sticks! I knew I wasn't crazy.

I don't know if it was the first batch but there was a tap of King Sue at darklord day this year and I agree it was fantastic on tap.

I agree, we all know some of the BA Stouts trade well above $4$ , Unless Assassin was a $35 beer $4$ you'd be upside down on the Sculpin, that stuff is $17 a six here without tax, so if anyone is dying for a Sculpin for Assassin flip I'm in. only kidding of course, but no really,
