Well another reason to revoke my BA card coming up. My wife and I will actually split flights on brewery visits. Often times it is a situation where she only likes one of the beers in the flight, so she tries what she wants, I try what I want. But we have actually shared equally as well. A flight of four seems right to me. We did Gritty's and I think there were ten or eleven...that got muddled and a little confusing. I can get a general idea of like or not like from a couple decent sips, then I can do a bigger pour of far fewer candidates. Some form of risk management, I suppose.

I do prefer the half pours, but I like the flight in general as a quick scan method. Recent visit to a brewery, certainly glad I did not order anything more...the beer was not worth drinking. Bad enough the flight was six bucks. Odds were one of the four would be at least palatable, but no.

My thoughts on flights are that if you think that 2 or 3 of the beers sound good and the bartender is not nice enough to give you a sampler than you get a flight but we are in a world now where we know what kind of beers we like when trying wheats and hefeweizens are a common norm these days.

Six bucks would be a great deal in this part of NY. Worst offender: there's a bar I know that charges $18. No thanks.

Absolutely love flights although I don't always feel the need to get them any more. Very much depending on the situation.

For instance tonight I went to a highly regarded brewery with a dozen beers on tap that offers a flight of 4 four oz pours for 6 bucks. I'm glad I did the flight because I came in thinking I'd be filling my growlers with ABCD but after tasting some of the super highly rated beers I wound up leaving with ABEF.

I might not get a flight of 8-10 beers from the neighborhood brewpub anymore but I will before I shell out 60-70 bucks on growlers.

I'll order a flight the first time I go to a brewery unless there is a particular beer I've been waiting to try. I start with the lowest IBU beer and work my way to the highest IBU or sour finishing each one before moving on to the next. I always leave a high abv stout last. Most breweries serve stouts too cold anyhow, so after 10-15 minutes drinking the first beers I'm ready for a big stout.

Flights are for people who can't make decisions. Now, occasionally that's me--if I see a good number of intriguing choices--but more often than not I'm just going to pick a beer and get down to the business of drinking it.

That certainly changes the value equation! Like a lot of things beer, it all depends on the situation. In that particular case, six bucks was too much for four crappy beers...

I love flights if I'm at a new brewery.

Missed the edit window, but need to correct an error. The Gritty McDuffs flight was nine beers, four ounce pours, two on cask. It was fifteen bucks and we felt it was worthy. Six bucks for four three ounce crappy beers...flips the value proposition.

It depends. If it's from a brewery or brew pub, typically not doing a flight. If there's a nice craft bar that has a ton of taps and I can do a flight of one of my favorite styles, then I'm all about it. I recently got a decent Imperial Stout flight consisting of Stone RIS, Founders RIS, Abyss, Old Rasputin on Nitro, and Clown Shoes Unidragon.

I order flights at the local taphouse that has 60+ handles on so that I can try different beers that I can't get singles or aren't distributed at all. When I hit a brewery, I rarely ever get a flight.

I almost always get a flight. 5 ounces is plenty for me to evaluate a beer and with 4 or 5 different beers I get a good feel for the brewery.

I love beer flights. Just about anything is at least interesting for 5 oz. The ones I like the most I will order a pint.

I'll get a flight rarely, but I will order one every once in a while. If I am going to a brand new brewery and want to try many beers (and I'm driving), I'll get a flight. The last flight I got was at De Garde; there were too many damn beers I had to try. I couldn't just pick one! Plus, after I had the flight, I was able to choose which bombers I wanted to bring back home.

I like ordering flights, especially when I'm at a brewery with which I don't have a ton of experience. I'm always open to beers of pretty much any style, even if I haven't liked the style much in the past. Getting a flight gives me an opportunity to decide which beer(s) I want to buy a full pint of.

Never. I can never get my head around drinking 2-4oz of beer.

However, I have found they work quite well for those who are looking to step out of their comfort zone, beer wise.
