I keep my eyes open when I know something's coming out but I don't make the effort to check more than a few conveniently located shops (I'm a pedestrian). Usually I just go into a packy to find whatever's waiting there. That's the Christmas morning to the chaser's Easter egg hunt.

Going after rare beer is similar to what they say about attractive women. The chase is often the best part.

I am tired of it, I hate it. But I'll do it for beers I like.

My idea of the chase is looking around the shop, picking up what I like & then asking about said beer. If not in, I don't care any more. To much great beer out there on the shelves to worry any more. Have fun tomorrow, but I remember when this stuff was just on the shelf, love the BCBS but not the silly f%$ ing game being played now...

Does going out of your way to try one beer one time constitute a "chase"? Or is it just continual chase of any rare beer regardless if you like it or not? I wanted to try Pirate Bomb, saw it on Instagram then ran down to grab a bottle because I liked regular Bomb and I've heard Pirate Bomb was better. Maybe I wouldn't do it again for the same beer, but at least I got to try it.

Whale hunter 4 lyfe. That said, I don't obsess over it- I enjoy shelf beer 95% of the time. But I'm never one to pass up a good trade or release.

For the most part, yes.... I still keep track of seasonal releases and one off offerings but the days of freaking because I can't find Beer X are over... Way too many amazing offerings on the shelves every single day to stress over it... If I come across something rare, sure, I buy it... but I won't travel several states over just to grab 2 bottles of something anymore either. Not knocking anyone that does, mind you.... Just ain't my thing anymore....

I despise the chase and all who contribute to it (which translates into a level of self-loathing).

That said, how else does a regular person who does not work in the beer industry get one-of-a-kind release?

Depends on how far you really stretched yourself to get it. I've made a few dives for specific beers & then went to 2 other stores based on the "clues" I was given. Don't do that any more...

Maybe an 8 minute drive down the freeway... two popular liquor stores nearby usually get hit with the same shipment, so I was expecting an Instagram post. Can't really blame myself since pirate bomb wasn't available in CA until this past month.

I'll keep an eye out for things like Breakfast Stout, and If I'm driving up to Vermont, I'll make a few calls about HT deliveries. Other than that, I don't bother with chasing beers. There's so much good beer available here locally from NY, so I'd rather patronize my local breweries instead of tracking down rare stuff that might not be worth it in the end.

Not going all over town for bcbs.... I don't mind trading but I've never really spent the day chasing beers.

Never chased a beer. If I happen to see something rare or of limited supply, I'm pleasantly surprised and make a purchase.

Yes. I'm over the chase and I'm thankfully over that feeling we've all had at some point where we feel we have to get our hands on a certain amount of something to feel satisfied.

This years unfortunate BCBS situation in DC/VA/MD combined with a BA trader that wanted my right testicle, first born son, a unicorn and Jimmy Hoffa's corpse for a bottle of beer he paid $10 for pretty much earned me my final Beer Chaser rehab token.

Is Vanilla Rye so much better than regular BCBS or Parabola? So much so that I have to wait in line while I'm hungover in 30 degree weather to pay $10 over what Goose Island wants retailers to charge? I probably won't think so

When Westvleteren came and you waited in line in the freezing cold to purchase an $80 6 pack did you find that it blew Rochefort 10 out of the water when you finally tried it? Probably not.

My days over speeding from store to store to purchase 4 bottles of ________ are over. My wallet is happier, my wife is happier, and I'm happier.

I'm in the process of consuming all of the beers I've collected and just knew I'd drink over the last 3 years (I didn't drink them; I just stared at them and hoped they'd multiply like gremlins in water).

When the X amount of beers I have in my "cellar" (basement) are consumed I look forward to going out and buying easy to find, unbelievable year round and seasonal beers like Two Hearted, Maine Mo, Undercover Investigation, Rochefort 10, Edmund Fitz, Dirty Bastard and so on.

Thank god I've always hated IPA's and never got on the "Has to be younger than 10 minutes old or I won't drink it" boat. I'd be in rehab for significantly longer.

My desire for "the chase" is dwindling down. There a few beers that come out each year that I absolutely look forward to and do want to try and get. But now, it seems like a brewery is releasing a "special" beer every week. I've spent too much money trying these beers and they aren't all that special (they're good, just not like yeah that was worth the chase, or more so the price).Similar to what others have said, there are so many other beers out there that are readily available that are just as good, if not better.
