Visiting for a conference - looking for a good beer bar to try some good local stuff (or KBS!)

    Any insight would be appreciated!

Hey you'll find most stuff about that area in the Mid Atlantic forum. Our stuff happens more in line with DC than the rest of the state. Places to go:
Churchkey (best beer bar in DC)
Pizzeria Paradiso (Three locations. Georgetown and Dupont Circle in DC; Old Town Alexandria in VA. Best happy hour in town when it happens, half off all drafts. HH from 5-7, Dupont it's Tues/Wed, Georgetown and Old Town it's M-R) I also work at PP, so if you come to Dupont on Tuesday or Gtown on Thursday or Friday I'll be your resident barback who is just looking to talk about beer.
    City Tap House
    Meridian Pint
    Smoke and Barrel
Golden Brown Delicious (Beer, Donuts, Fried Chicken, Waffles)
    Rustico (2 Locations)

    Breweries to Hit Up:
Mad Fox in Fall's Church. IMO although they don't make the best single beer in DC they make a lot of styles at a consistently high level to the point that they're my favorite brewery in the area. Foods also the shit.
Port City in Alexandria. Nice staff, awesome DIPA, decent other stuff. It's close and it's fun.
DC Brau is only open for tours on Saturday. They make imo the best beer in DC (On the Wings of Armageddon).
Right Proper Brewing Company is another brewpub that is making great beer and great food.
Atlas and Three Stars are okay, I haven't done their tours to speak to that but it's worth trying some of their stuff on draft at the bars listed above.
    Don't bother with Chocolate City.

Check out Mad Fox/Space Bar (only a block or so from eachother), Galaxy Hut, and Rustico. All on the Nova side as well which makes it easier.

The primo venue in Arlington is Rustico Ballston; other worthy options are Fireworks Pizza and Galaxy Hut, the latter being somewhat hipster. (See my reviews for each.)
