I got the chance to buy some Armand'4 Herfst and Zomer but they were going at 65$/bottle with a minimum purchase of 6 of one kind. So i'm wondering if this is decent or overpriced as I never saw it on the selves before. thanks for your input.
It's hard to say. We haven't seen too many beers in this price range before. Zomer and Lente are out of this world but I would never pull the trigger, and I originally bought seven Rares.
Wait…what? That is absurd. Also, don't really get that binary ("decent" or "overpriced") But to answer your question, Lente & Zomer are ridiculously good. The others less ridiculously good, so quite good. (IMO…)
Yeah, meaning is the 65$ price tag per bottle decent or overpriced? Compared to what you guys have seen and paid for.
I think they are good, but very expensive. I don't like to think about how much I paid for a beer I drink, but when it gets to be this expensive, you need to have good friends to share this beer with so that if you have 4 friends with Armands, you can have this beer 4 different times and then the $60 doesn't seem so bad since you get to spend it out over months or years.
Ahhh, right-o. Sorry! But seriously where are they setting the 6 bottle minimum??? e.g. So to satisfy your curiosity they expect you to pay ≈ $390? (Wait, USD, right?)
I wasn't very clear. These come from importations so I have to get a case which is 6 bottles. This 390$ would be in canadian even though us and canadian dollar is almost even. Thank god it isn't 390 euros
Just one bottle was expensive but I was considering it. Having to buy 6 kills it for me. My buddy would probably split on a case but even at that I still have to pay close to 200$ for three bottles. I guess i'll just stick with my cantillon
Herfst was my favorite, but even that wasn't worth a repeat buy at $55 (close though). Super glad to have tried them all though. I have more bottles that I need to figure out what to do with. I'll probably end up trading them years down the road.
There are a lot of other good geuze out there with smaller price tags. Maybe ill treat myself to a herfst or lent at some point to celebrate something.
The Lente I had was the best gueuze, arguably the best beer, I have ever had. Other blends of similar quality are much more expensive and harder to get, some are even saying past their prime now. I'd say they are worth the price all things considered, but few people can afford drinking these regularly. So if your budget allows, pick some up while you can.
I ordered mine from Etre and they came out to around $55 each after shipping, so I'd say $65 is a bit high, but like others have said, it's all about whether or not it's worth it to you. I have several complete sets and am glad I do, as Lente has pretty much disappeared. Will definitely be enjoying these over the next 5 years and hopefully even longer
Cash is often the issue with sours. When Cantillon comes in, I always want to buy it all but i have to control myself and only buy a case of what I really want.
Mine were $73. I'm guessing you got in when the dollar was making a comeback I also had to buy the collection because they wouldn't move any Lente's without the family pack.
I've had Lente many times now and nothing's really compared to the first time I had it. Which makes me think I hyped it up in my head a little to compensate for the hit to the wallet. I'd say if you love gueuze you can justify buying it. I haven't had winter yet but I wasn't that crazy about Herfst. Zomer was nice but also not something I'd spend the money for again. I'd rather buy multiples of regular gueuze. Lente is top-tier but when talking about 3F gueuze I think there is a very fine line between a good vintage and special one-off blends.
Different tastes. I thought Herfst was the only one with an outstanding taste. Despite my review scores, my order is Herfst, Winter/Lente tie, Zomer. Winter is like a not-as-good Herfst as far as I can tell.
