Could the revoked license be a procedural thing? There are only so many licenses in Chicago. Before they can issue a new one, an old one has to be revoked to open a spot?

My understanding, mostly by way of paying attention to the efforts to lift the moratorium on new licenses in/around Wicker Park, is no. Once a business gets that license, it's theirs forever (unless they do something so egregious it's revoked). Provided the Alderman/community (eh, who are we kidding? It's always down to the Alderman) is okay with it, new licenses can be granted regardless of the number of other licenses out there.

I'll start by saying I've never been to Armanetti's, I was just intrigued by the thread. After reading what the OP had to say and reading reviews, it seams difficult to feel bad for the closing. While he definitely could've been nice and friendly to even 90% of the customers, no one is entitled to be confrontational, or brutal as the OP put it, to the other 10%. I don't wish I'll on him by any means but nothing gives him the right to act in such a way(assuming reviews weren't blown out of proportion).

Yeah, pretty sure you shouldn't be in the business of serving customers if you act like that.

Isn't this the place that was asking patrons to purchase $50 dollars worth of beer in order to have the option or privilege to buy a $20 bottle of Bourbon County...

I believe that was another store. This was where you were asked to buy a raffle ticket for a chance to buy a $20.00 BC lol

Ironically this was Evolution, the place now moving in. Though they seem to have learned from their mistakes... I personally don't mind paying a couple extra bucks per rare bomber or voluntarily picking up a couple of additional sixers rather than dealing with shady practices.

Binny's absolutely killed Armanetti's, they should have sold when Sam's did, because from that moment on it was just a matter of time.

Went by the store in Shorewood today and they were gone. Sad because the store up north in Libertyville got me into craft beer because they sold by the bottle, and thus the commitment of $1.25 was negligible compared to that of a whole sixer. Needless to say I was hooked.

All hail Binny's! Tis just the way of the world, the young lion drives the aging lion from the herd when he is ready to take over the pride.

Stopped by Evolution last Thursday, just to check the new digs. The place had what seemed to be plenty of wine, but the craft beer section had tumble weeds rolling around and cobwebs in the shelves. Seriously though, very bare. I am hoping it was because it was still brand new, and didn't have time to stalk the shelves.

I will say that the beer selection is focused and high quality, but small.

However, the wine selection is far better than Armanetti's and is by far the best in the neighborhood. Also, they sell bourbon and other hard stuff, which was another thing Armanetti's was lacking.

West Lakeview seems to be surviving the Binny's machine just fine...pays to treat all your customers with respect I guess

There's room for both Binny's and smaller chains/indies. I rely on the latter for a lot of rarer stuff. Heck, I don't think I've ever even seen any FFF sixers besides RtB and P&J at a Binny's.

But the beer guys at the three Binny's I frequent know me and are always eager to let me know about their latest and greatest stock, which is actually a service that I *don't* find at most of the indies/small chains I go to (exception: Main Street in Countryside, IL).

if your store sucks, tough luck you let your family down. But I agree some people really hammered on it.
