Looking forward to trying BBA AB alongside Bastard in the Rye, which is one of my absolute favorite beers. Can't see how I'll be able to resist buying several of these, particularly if they show up in Costco.

I hope this BBA AB is more along the lines of Southern Charred, rather than Bastard In The Rye. I liked both beers, but felt that the barrel character from the Rye barrels in Bastard In The Rye didn't work as well as the Bourbon barrels in Southern Charred. I am just happy they are releasing a BA version that will be easier to get than the Quingenti Millilitre beers!

I wonder if this is going to be the same as this beer:

This looks like a decent investment. I hope this goes over better at my TW than the 4pk assortment that sat forever.

    Unleash the Bastards!

Feeble palates beware: Three new Bastard brews is headed your way, and they mean business. If you have yet to taste Arrogant Bastard Ale, the brash original that started it all, you may want to start there before attempting to tangle with the new guys. Beginning on Monday, October 27, you'll get the chance to test your mettle against not one, not two, but three special-release Bastards, should you deem yourself up to the task. Take them on one at a time, or the truly fearless can tackle the whole crew in our new Arrogant Bastard Box, which contains the original Bastard along with his three bigger brothers.

Double Bastard Ale, undeniably the biggest Bastard of all, has been making annual appearances since 1998, and this year's version is as big as ever. Brewed with an unwarranted amount of malt and hops, it assaults the tastebuds with an unreasonable amount of flavor that few can appreciate.

The most complex Bastard we brew can only be conjured up every other year. Lukcy Basartd Ale is an amalgamation of all the Bastards—Arrogant Bastard Ale, Double Bastard Ale, and OAKED Arrogant Bastard Ale—thrown together and then dry-hopped to the point of excess.

Last, but of course not least, the newest addition to our cast, Bourbon Barrel-Aged Arrogant Bastard Ale, will make its debutonly as part of the Arrogant Bastard Box. The most refined of all the Bastards, its stay in Kentucky bourbon barrels added layers of oak, vanilla, and whiskey to an already audacious flavor profile.

Awww. I thought this was a Founders post...perhaps three different barrel varieties of Backwoods. Dammit.

Why? We've gotten plenty of Stone releases and also got a similar 4 pack of bombers recently.

Every (Stone) Bastard I've had from a barrel (Bastard in the Rye and Southern Charred) has destroyed Backwoods Bastard in my book. But then, scotch ales might just not really be my thing.

I believe it will be the same as the BBA Arrogant Bastard, which was a big disappointment in my book. Bastard in the Rye is miles better than this. I would not get my hopes too high, as the barrel flavor is VERY subtle.

Are they even the same type of beer? And I've truthfully never had Stone's Arrogant Bastard or any variety there of. I need to rectify that in short order.

Nope  Backwoods is a BA Scotch, while Stone's Bastards are variously considered American Strong or American Barleywine. And the BA variants of those are pretty, pretty, pretty good.
