Hey all....I'll be taking my son and some friends to the Bamboozle Fest is Asbury Park this Saturday. I'm going to have 8 hours (maybe more) to kill while they are at the shows. Any places I should try to visit while up that way? I know the general area appears to have little to offer, but any shops, bars, brewpubs, breweries, anything nearby?

Brickwall always has a few decent beers on tap. Kane Brewing is a short ride away in Ocean Township and should be open for tastings.

A little longer of a ride, probably about 20-25 minutes, but you can go up 36 and hit Twin Light Taphouse in Highlands right on Bay Ave. They have a pretty solid taplist, as well as awesome food. Then about 5 minutes up the road is Carton Brewing where they do a free tour and tastings, as well as growler fills.

A few miles north of town, Nip 'n'Tuck Bar in Long Branch. Little neighborhood joint in a somewhat rundown section, usually pretty good taplist and good food cooked behind the bar.

I thought they once had a Facebook page w/taplist, but I don't see it now (but I don't do Facebook, so might just not be able to navigate around and find it). Maybe call first before driving up.

EDIT- Spelling it wrong - not Nip 'n' Tuck or Nip & Tuck, but Nip-N-Tuck.

Bond St. Bar, a cool dive bar off the beach.

Wonder Bar, accross from Convention Hall [if you can get to it]. They play the blues.

Not sure if your into horse racing but you could pack a cooler and hop on the train to Monmouth Park. Bottle shop wise there is Spirits Unlimited in Red Bank along with Basil Ts (brew pub) maybe like a 20 minute drive.

Also want to mention Court Liquors in Long Branch. They have a really good selection of American craft and international brews.

Can't recommend Kane Brewing in Ocean enough. The beer is exceptional and Mike is a cool guy and easy to talk to.

huge +1 to this. you can go in and have a sample of each of the beers on tap for free and take a quick tour of the space. if you're not into tours, you can just walk around and check out the brewery for yourself too, which is what i usually do.

they also allow you to bring in your own growlers to fill - i'd recommend the head high if you're into west coast style IPAs.
