Recently moved to Ashburn (Brambleton), are there any good places to buy beer without having to drive to Chantilly TW or Sterling TW? The Wegman's here is a bit of a let down, lot's of old and expired IPAs. Harris Teeter has an ok selction and fairly good prices. I went to a wine shop in South Riding and i was terrible, smelled like puke and they had nothing buy old bottles and a tiny selection. Head good things about Ashburn Wine Shop, how is the selection? Prices? I usually avoid Wine Shops since the prices are usually through the roof. TIA.
Ashburn Wine Shop has a small, but good selection, the owner is a solid guy as well. Leesburg Public house has some solid taps and the food is dank too and about a 10 min ride from brambleton, a buddy of mine lives there, and he also hits another wine store that I can't recall the name of now. Sorry for the wine shop recommendations, but Ashburn wine shop prices are in line with most everyone else.
You might ask again in the "South Atlantic" forum. For whatever reason, that's where Virginia is, as far as the forums are broken up.
I live in Ashburn as well. The Ashburn Wine Shop is a nice place and the owner is a good guy. Prices are a little higher than at TW or Wegmans. Wegmans in Leesburg & Dulles both have good selections, so don't give up on them...just watch bottle dates. They do get fresh shipments regularly, though. Also, they'll get Stone's rotating & one-time releases (Enjoy By, RuinTen, W00stout, etc.), BCBS, and some other limited-release stuff as well. And a Whole Foods is being built the the intersection of Claiborne Pkwy. & route 7. I will need to take out a second mortgage on the house to supplement my income once that arrives. Really, TW is probably your best bet for the freshest stuff. I personally prefer the TW in Chantilly, even though the Sterling location is right near my work. They'll get some more limited stuff, too. I just picked up some Founders Harvest Ale from Sterling yesterday. If you haven't been to Norm's in Vienna, you should check it out (though again, prices are higher than TW). They will get many limited release items (like Parabola, etc.). They have an email list & show their latest arrivals weekly on Facebook/Twitter. Plus, Norm is a very cool guy. Really knows his wine (and has a terrific selection) and has a good beer guy (though I don't know his name).
If you're going all the way to Norm's, stop by Whole Foods in Fair Lakes first. They have an amazing selection of bottles and on draft. Lee is really on top of the beer program over there.
It really doesn't compare to Norm's. Norm's will get limited release items much more often and Norm's overall selection is larger.
