    Starts Saturday, May 25th!
Just Brew It! Homebrew Contest and Festival outside Wedge Brewing from 1-4pm claims to be tapping over 250 Gal of eclectic homebrews in its 4th annual event. Several favorites chosen by the crowd, as well as local brewers, will receive special awards. Some winning recipes will get brewed by local breweries. I think I've heard this AVL Beer Week event talked about more than any other. http://beeradvocate.com/events/info/61787

There are several other cool events happening throughout the week as well. Official site is here: http://ashevillebeerweek.com/

If anyone's coming to town and wants to do a tasting/bottleshare let me know, I got a few things!

Buddy of mine was at the homebrew event, texted and sent pictures. Looked like a grand time, and he brewed the Thirsty Monk's winner. Anybody try the "Rye & Dry?" Rye IPA w/ Amarillo and Simcoe. Wish I could have made it over from Raleigh, looked like a great event.

Was the Rye & Dry the Monk's winner? I tried it and liked it - marked a "Z" next to it on the program.

I thought it was a cool event. I tried several good and many more interesting beers. Some of my favs were the "Blanc Bizarre" (1 1/2 y.o. sour beer blended with fresh Belgian Wit), "Funky Blackberry Stout" (w/ brett and wild blackberries) and the "$11.85/hr is the Living Wage Lager". Lots of other good ones though, there was even a Gumballhead clone.

Yup, the Rye & Dry was the monk winner. Damn, really wish I'd come over now, Blanc Bizarre sounds right up my alley.

I might be interested in an in-person trade, but don't want to ship. Plan on making it to Asheville or somewhere around here anytime? BeerMail me

I might try & make it down this weekend but didn't get tickets to any events. Hopefully I can bring a few good things back.

Still plenty of cool things to do without tickets during beer week:
Wicked Weed has a bunch of special beers on tap, same with Thirsty Monk (Friday they will have a dozen brews from Asheville's brand new Hi-Wire Brewing) and there's no entry fee for either.
Seems like every local brewery released at least one special beer this week and a lot of them are still available. Pisgah probably still has some BA Cosmos and Vortex II and a new batch of Vortex I was just in the bright tank (you can prob sample during a free tour if its not out yet).
If you go out to Pisgah, there is another new brewery out in Black Mountain now called Lookout Brewing (right now it's a tiny nano brewpub/homebrew shop).
Green Man also just released bottles of a BA Baltic Porter that is awesome. Even if the bottles are gone, the place is always worth checking out. (Bruisin Ales might have some) The Green Man ESB is one of my favorite Asheville beers.

Is batch 69 going to be available in growler fills? If so consider me ISO with some decent stuff to trade
