Planning a trip to Asheville and going to 2 breweries. Wicked Weed Funkatorium is a definite stop but which other should I consider? So many great options!

Sierra Nevada in Mills River, Oskar Blues in Brevard, and every other brewery in that amazing town. I'm going back in February myself

You've got to stop at Burial. It's not far from Wicked Weed.

Was there in October. Great beer town. Funkatorium was my favorite overall. Burial just up the road is great. Sierra Nevada outside of town is great for lunch.

    Why just two?

Man, once you're at Wicked Weed you can WALK to another 5-6 really good breweries. In 6-7 hours you'll be able to knock out Asheville. Probably going to have to spend the night though. At least I did.

Never been there but everything I have tried from Burial is top notch.

Great feedback all, thank you! Burial it is. Just an overnight trip so I think 2 will be about the limit. If u can make it to a 3rd, maybe Green Man.

Only 2? That would be like going to Disney World and only riding 2 of the rides.

We have been to all of them, and there isn't one that doesn't have something to recommend, so to recommend one is like "where do I start "

If you have never been to a "big" craft brewery, you need to go to Sierra Nevada, it is jaw dropping, and they have good beer. Burial, nothing wrong with that either, or any of the 20 other nearby breweries.

When you are at Wicked Weed or Burial, you need to be aware that there are 7 other breweries within walking distance. The area is called the South Slope, and as an example, you can be inside Catawba Brewing (also excellent and many barrel aged choices in their Rack Room), and from there see 3 other breweries, less than a block away.

Yes, do the funketorium then walk to Burial, stopping at Twin Leaf, Catawba, and Green man along the way. :grinning:

Burial makes great beer, it would be my stop. I'd love to see SN on my next trip into town.

Sierra Nevada is a must. You can hit a noon tour there, lunch at 12 bones and then funkatorium tour at 4 followed by Burial and Twin Leaf if you have it in you. Funkatorium tour is like $12 but worth every penny.

Sorry to thread jack but have a friend going through Asheville on Monday. Wandering what good local beers might be in the bottle shops now that could come back to MN. Thinking along the lines of Stouts & Porters since I won't see him until March and would want to experience the hoppy options fresh.

    Thanks for any help.

Yeah Burial is a well-rounded second choice after the Funkatorium with plenty of unique brews - if you're a hop freak, the Wicked Weed pub on Biltmore is probably the best option. Heard good things about Wedge but haven't been yet.

@Otis32 Lindley Park and Event Horizon from Olde Hickory and any of the Wicked Weed sours (but I'd recommend Black Angel and Oblivion).

From Wicked Weed, you are about a ten-minute walk from several breweries: Burial, Asheville Brewing, Twin Leaf, Funkatorium, Green Man and High Wire. Great town!

    Yep, that's a thread jack.
Do your homework with that pesky 'search' button for the subforum. If you can't find the answer you're looking for that way, start your own thread.

Feel free to return to your regularly scheduled feelings of superiority & self importance. There are legit reasons for the approach I took but you and the tired "because search button" attempt at a reprimand are not worth an explanation.

Nothing superior about it. Forums are designed, and even invented, to gather information. Why anyone would not use that tool to their own advantage, and instead be lazy and look to be spoonfed the information, is beyond me. There is absolutely nothing you can ask in this forum, or even the internet, that hasn't already been thoroughly discussed hundreds of times before.
