Going on a golf trip in early April down in the Sunset Beach area. My cousin lives in Asheville and will be meeting us down there. Does anyone have any recommendations for local beers I can have him round up prior to the trip down there? 6/12 pack bottles or cans preferable but if there are can't miss growlers those would be welcomed as well. Thanks for all the help ! edit: also any can't miss spots bottle shops or bars once down in Sunset Beach? Thanks again
NoDa Coco Loco and Hop Drop 'N Roll 4/16oz cans packs. The Unknown Dirty Commie Heathen and Triple C Chocolate Covered Pretzel Stout 22 oz bottles. Olde Hickory Irish Walker, The Event Horizon and Lindley Park 22 oz bottles. The Unknown Silver Back Stout 6-pack cans. Wicked Weed Oblivion and Amorous, if you like sours. Not local, but Westbrook cans are available in Asheville now.
I don't know about anyone else but I enjoyed the Asheville Brewing Co. Shiva ipa (also I enjoyed making "shiva-blast" jokes while drinking it) but I feel like fresh cans of that - app vintner had em last time I was up there - would be great during a round of golf.
If I told him to grab a case of Hop Drop N roll & Westbrook Gose would he have any trouble? Not sure how hard these beers would be to find.
A good bottle shop in Asheville should have them. I doubt there is much near sunset but you can find plenty of good local options in Wilmington.
He said his cousin lives in Asheville and was going to bring some down. If your cousin lives there wouldn't he already know what is available around town in cans or bottles? App Vintner, Bruisin Ales and Ingles grocery store carry a pretty decent selection of beer from Asheville. Ingles doesn't carry Hop Drop but its not really from Asheville, its made in Charlotte, but anyway, they almost always have a very fresh stock of Shiva, Ninja, and Rocket Girl from Asheville brewing (all in six pack cans). Another option is Green Man (6 pack bottles), but you can buy it all over the state now from what I understand6 . Hi Wire (6 pack bottles) is another option, although I have not been overly impressed by them. Catawba makes a variety of canned beers, they were once out of Morganton, NC but they have a new brewery in Asheville. Of course the stalwart, Highland, which produces 6 and 12 pack bottles and is pretty much available everywhere. Also, a lot of the Oskar Blues and some Sierra Nevada beers are being brewed in the Asheville area, which means that they are more likely to be fresh, which has become a problem, especially for Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Anyway hope that helps! Your cousin needs to drink more local beer man!
Catawba makes an awesome (canned) beer called Peanut Butter Jelly Time which would go nicely on the golf course. Added bonus, you can do the banana dance and sing the song whenever you hit a good ball!
