Visiting Asheville, NC Jan 19 for a long weekend. I understand it is a good beer destination. Any suggestions on places that are a must visit and any to avoid?
Green Man Highland French Broad These all have decent ratings as breweries on this site. I've only had Green Man and it was pretty tasty
Wicked Weed! Haven't been there but a buddy of mine brought me back a growler of Freak, their Double IPA and it was delicious! Its new, so be sure to hit it up! Hear they have excellent barrel-aged brews too!
The Thirsty Monk is a must, easily the best bar in town. For bottles shoping, hit up Bruisin Ales and Appalachian Vitnier. For breweries, Highland, Wicked Weed, French Broad, and Green Man will do you just fine. If you see Foothills Jade IPA on tap at Green Man's, drink it! You will be glad did.
Wedge, Pisgah, and Southern Appalachian (just outside Asheville) are all great too. There's a ton of good spots, visit beermapping.com for better details.
Do not miss Wedge (Brewery), or Thirsty Monk(Beer Bar). Barleys Pizza and Taproom is a cool place that has great beer as well. Pisgah and Highland are worth the drive just outside of town. Brusin Ales for bottles, although less bottles you may be able to find a more limited release in West Asheville at Hops and Vines. Wicked Weed looks cool, It is new but probably worth the trip to see what it is all about. Also LAB, Jack of the Wood (Green Man), Asheville Brewing are all worth a quick stop. I am not sure what is up with OB out in Brevard, but they are open.
