I know I can search and find some information, but this is a little specific.

I am heading up in August and we are staying at the Renaissance downtown. Trying not to drive around much so what exactly is in walking distance of the hotel (bottle shops, breweries, restaurants)

I know Bruisin Ales is fairly close but that's about all Iknow

Barley's isn't too bad a walk, nor is the Thirsty Monk. For shops, you could hoof it all the way to Appalachian Vitner, but I think it'd be a couple of miles. You'll be close to tons of restaurants...if you want to drop some coin, I found Curate to be fantastic...weak beer selection though, it's all about the wine.

Depends how you are with walking. I walk from my apartment to downtown all the time, and you can hit:
LAB, Greenman, Oyster House, Asheville Brewing, and Craggie. Also Wicked Weed is in the works, don't think they'll be open that soon but maybe?

Bar wise you can hit Thirsty Monk, Barley's, Bier Garden, and Greenman/Dirty Jacks has a good selection.

The only shop is Bruisin downtown. I guess technically Weinhaus has bottles, but not really a great selection. I would take the time to drive down to Appalachain Vintner though, plus they have a nice tap list.

I would choose Appalachain Vintner over Bruisin Ales for sure if you can get a ride a mile or so South!

I was there Labor Day and AV was one of my first stops and I am glad it was. Wife and I grabbed a beer and I casually looked at the selection and threw beers in my cart as I drank my (and my wife's beer) leisurely while I was there. When I went to Bruisin Ales I thought they were overpriced and wasn't blown away by the selection.

The only place I haven't seen mentioned is jack of the wood. It's a neat place that has good music on occassion with an average beer selection. It's across the street from the monk.

Also, go eat breakfast at over easy. Is right on broadway and a short walk from your hotel. Great coffee, delicious omelettes, pancakes etc. fresh organic food. Very tasty. I drive out of m way to go here.

Walk to Vintner... I can do it from downtown and I couldn't walk at all a few months ago. You'll be fine and it will be worth your time. Promise. But you should be able to hit up the following from where you are staying:

    Mellow Mushroom
    Bruisin' Ales
    Barley's
    Thirsty Monk
    The Bier Garden
    LAB
    Jack of the Wood
    Green Man
    Asheville Brewing Company
    Craggie
    The Wedge
    Appalachian Vintner
    Oyster House

Also with a quick drive or cab you can get to:
    Pisgah
    Highland
    French Broad

    Have fun brother!

-Pretty much everything is within walking distance, with a few exceptions. First off, you're staying at a nice hotel, enjoy.

-On the main drag of Broadway/biltmore, going south from your hotel, you've got brusin ales, mellow mushroom, Pack's Tavern (A block or so east) hannah flanagans, barley's and plenty of restaurants (I recommend Over Easy for Breakfast and Wasabi's for sushi).

-Next block over you've got Mela's (decent indian food), LAB, Zambra on walnut street (I can't recommend this place more, order off of the little daily menu, and order everything!)

-Other places Thirsty monk (Of course) and bier garden. Early Girl is good for breakfast. There are tons of other places to eat that I've never been to because I'm such a creature of habit. Just pop in any place that looks good and chances are it will be. Mantooth ate at some other tapas restaurant the last time he was there that he said was awesome, maybe he'll pop in this thread later and add that to the list

-Like I say in all my repetaitve asheville posts.... LUSTY MONK MUSTARD! get some.

Cab to Pisgah will be $$$$$.....unless thagr81us is paying . I think you should drive there to have your first drink. Then head back to your hotel and leave your car for good.

I always pay... But yeah, it would be pricey. Would find a driver at least.

You're probably referring to the place Curate (KOO-ra-tay) that I mentioned. Really freaking delicious, chef was an understudy at El Buli in Spain. Highly recommended for a group so that you can sample a lot...just be prepared for a big bill and a modest beer selection (think Heinekin and Sam Adams bottles with one or two taps...I had pisgah pale). I like Zambra, but this place was on another level. Tell them that it's somebody's birthday and you get a super special ridiculous dessert that's not on thee menu. Oh, make reservations.
