Maybe it depends on when you visit Wicked Weed - I have mostly gone shortly after they opened in the afternoon, sometimes during the week. More laid back crowd and not overly busy downstairs.

I normally can only make it to Asheville on Saturday afternoons, and only in the late spring-early fall. Obviously, at the peak moments of the season, and during probably the most busy portion of the week. Nothing against them, it's just a busy ass place, but for good reason.

I never go to Wicked Weed on weekends. Normally I have my kids with me, and they love to eat there so we are a more of 5pm mid week type of crowd. I always slid downstairs to grab my beers, and make sure to fill a growler or two.

The Wedge has been incredibly rude to me and a handful of other families about having kids there. For a town that is so supportive to families (and all breweries), the Wedge stands out as the brewery that has less of a problem with dogs crapping at their brewery than they do with kids laughing and having fun. I know they have lost a lot of business because of their arrogance, but they have maintained the crowd that likes to drink shitty beer and talk about kayaking. To each their own, but when I go out I prefer to drink good beer especially if I am going to be sitting in a dirt pit next to the train tracks. Highland Brewery is the polar opposite of the Wedge. I use to live within a 5 minute walk to Highland from my house and Oscar has been nothing but welcoming to my family as well as all others.

When I'm in Asheville I think a late lunch at Wicked Weed works best. For me to go on a late Friday, say, would be against my nature and common sense- I do not like crowds. As far as the rancor towards Wedge, I cannot speak. If one doesn't like a place, they should not go. Period. I love Wicked Weed, the owners, the beer, the food, the concept, and the excitement that they have brought to North Carolina beer enthusiasts. I can get a growler of their various beers (soon) at Bestway and Sticks and Stones fairly often has Freak of Nature on draft, which is a real treat. This is a great time for truly outstanding beer just exactly next door. Cheers everyone!

I've been to Weed twice once on a Fri which was fine , busy but not a real problem . Sat was a different animal together, a zoo and understaffed compared to the crowd. Can't imagine going there on a Sat night .

I've been to Wicked Weed at various times including mega busy crazy crowd times, I've never had an issue with their success. I've literally had a staff member keep me standing outside because their building was at capacity, Fire Marshall thing. Had to wait for folks to leave before entering (1st year Anniversary party). Other times, its been crowded but again, that is to be expected. I do not go there to power slam drinks, I reckon I'm just part of the "Sucks balls" crowd.

I mentioned in another thread I took some out of towners on a beer tour of the South Slope a couple of weekends ago. Friday night Wicked Weed was our first stop, but because of the crowd, it ended up our last stop. Worked out just fine. It isn't as if you can't find a decent crowd, vibe, brewery with a short walk anyway. So Burial, then Green Man, short walk up to Hi Wire then over to Wicked Weed. It was less crowded then.
