Next week, my GF and I head to beautiful Beer City, where we hope to hit the downtown venues. My question is a simple one: do they take credit cards or will cash be required? Thanks!

Asheville is so advanced they now only take bitcoins!

Or credit cards. None of the downtown breweries I have been to are a cash only. Enjoy.

Hell, if you hung around for a while, barter is a likely option.

Kinda funny, not bumpkinville that's for sure , they don't take chickens for beer. Have fun it's great, beyond the beer some nice eats too. 12 Bones.

If you had something good to trade, why not? Actually, I'm kidding. But if not Asheville, where? I'm an old dude and I'm a bit pumped about seeing Paul McCartney here tomorrow night. I've been reading the reviews and this is his last US stop before Brazil. Great shows here- Pressley, Hendrix, Grateful Dead, Springsteen (and many more), and then this one. I'll have a few Foothills Jade in advance. Cheers!

That was a bit confusing. I had no idea McCartney was playing Ashevegas. Then I looked it up and discovered you were talking about Greensboro. Nevertheless, have fun man! But, you kind of got my hopes up about Sir Paul playing my home without any notice. Anyway, man you will have a blast, we have tons of great beer-centric bars and breweries in abundance. Also, food is spectacular downtown and around the city. There are lots of music venues too, just look around and you will not be disappointed. Have a great beer in hand and chill to some nice vibes!

Sorry about that, but the internet sometimes detracts from actual geography- it's the genius and curse both. I'm a huge Asheville Advocate!

Thanks for the replies. My question was based on previous experiences with other "small" breweries (which were "cash only") and not intended to malign the sophistication of the city. I plan to put much money into the city coffers and you may thank me later. Of course, the biggest problem will be which beers to bring back.

My suggestion is go to Appalachian Vintner. They usually have a great selection. Bruisin Ale's is also good, but it's kind of a pain to find parking in that area. They both usually have about the same selection. Sometimes one will be more or less than the other on the same beer. I would check them both out, they are both worth looking into. Also, you can buy beer at the breweries. Some distributed to the local shops, like ABC, Green Man, WW and of course Highland, but its really pretty much everywhere anyway. Not really a beer store, but has a great selection and good prices is the Ingles on Tunnel Road. And yes, they all take cards and cash. Not sure about checks, but only my 90 year old grandmother uses them anymore.
