Headed to Asheville next weekend for my wife's bday. While I have a pretty good handle on what Asheville has to offer, I do have a couple questions. What local seasonal offerings can I get and where? I'm guessing Bruisin' Ales, but is there any other bottle shop I must go to? Are there any good places to go, that serve food and good local beer? We'll have our daughter with us, who will be 3 in November, but she's VERY well behaved. I can't stand it when people bring rowdy kids into a place, so we make it a point not to be THOSE people. That's a whole other thing though. Thanks

Appalachian Vinter is my go to in Asheville. You will find stuff there that Brusin Ales sells out of pretty quickly

12 Bones - BBQ joint, tasty & reasonably priced BBQ and local brews on tap & kid approved
Barleys - Pizza/taproom, lots of local taps & kid approved
Mamasitas - Mexican food - tasty, a few local taps & kid approved
Wicked Weed - Great beer! inside might be a little stuffy for kids but the front patio is cool!
Early Girl - Great for breakfast, my son said its "awesome" "the best breakfast ever"

We have been going to Asheville as a family since my son was 2 months old (now 6) he loves Asheville and never wants to leave! Great food, Great pepole, Great beer and great vibe!

I'll also be traveling to Asheville. Any good sour or Saison shops within an hrs drive?

    Barleys - as mentioned above.
LAB - Pretty good beer and food.
Over Easy - Just go here for breakfast. You won't regret it. Right in downtown close to Mellow Mushroom.
Salsas - Great Caribbean food. not sure about the beer lineup however, the food here is great.

Definitely check out Wicked Weed and go downstairs to the tasting room. They have more of a selection than the upstairs restaurant. Wicked Weed has about 15 beers on tap at any time, and about half of those will be saisons and sours. Fantastic new brewery!

Wow. No mention of Thirsty Monk? All Belgians downstairs and all crafts upstairs.

There is an Earth Fare sorta place just down from Bruisin' called Green Life; they usually have a pretty decent selection.

they asked for food and beer in addition to kid friendly. TM would not be my recommendation for that.

Do the breweries do growler fills and if they do, do you have to have a growler from the brewery? They fill any growler you have in SC, but every state is different, so I wasn't sure.

Check the thread in here about growler fills in NC. I would recommend you call the brewery directly on thinks.

Yes, unfortunately. I've found that very few are willing to go through the process of completely obscuring the label with theirs (as mentioned above)...but admittedly, I tend to stick to store-bought growlers in Asheville - I like the Catawba and Pisgah selections, and Nantahala should be back in town by now. The below are about half-guessed - anyone may feel free to correct me here and I make no guarantees. Would be nice to have a correct, comprehensive list:

    Wedge - yes
    Green Man - yes
    Highland - no
    Pisgah - pre-filled
    Wicked Weed - yes
    Altamont - ?
    Asheville - yes
    Burial - no
    French Broad - yes
    Hi-Wire - no
    Oyster House - yes
    LAB - yes

I was just saying, because I have Charleston Beer Exchange growlers. The breweries around here don't care either way.

It probably wasn't very clear - the list is of breweries that I think do or do not fill growlers. In NC, most that do fills generally require their own, but the law allows them to fill any growler if they are able to totally obscure another brewery's markings with their own (like a large sticker or some such).

Im going to be in town the 28th-31st with the family. I didnt have any trade bites, but I can bring northern goodies including a growler of gratitude and a '13 if anyone is interested. I can go shopping for some head hunter or other things as well before we head down.

I've got some stuff I brought back from Texas that I can trade. Mostly craft cans, nothing too fancy. I would be interested in the same (local craft cans) or whatever you wanna bring. I also have some glassware. BeerMail if interested.

We'll be there Nov 21 -24. Barley's pizza with a French Broad IPA is always good. Then Wedge, and Wicked Weed for some brews. I found a seafood and French restaurant that looks good, maybe a trip to the spa. We're staying at a cabin 8 miles from Asheville, fireplace, big screen, WIFI, much cheaper than down town with some atmosphere vs a standard hotel. Always fun.
