Yeah, this is my method. The general "beer fridge", and another area I keep stuff I only have 1 bottle of or whatever that I want to personally drink.

The only time that I would ever lose my shit on someone for drinking a beer without asking would be if it was a one-of-a-kind (to me) that I have never sampled before.

Anyway, my wife knows not to let anyone just grab at the special beer stash.

My wife will always ask first, and as long as the bottle isn't my only one, she can have it. That being said, I appreciate her waiting for me to open it and that's also a reason that I keep her wine rack fully stocked.

This thread is pretty funny...kind of smells like college in here. Luckily my machatunim would never ever ever ever open up a bottle of my beer. Mother in law is strictly red wine and father in law is strictly mich ultra. They call my beers "the grapefruit ones". O, and as already mentioned, I am smart enough not to tell my wife that she can not drink one of my beers.

My gf doesn't drink beer much. If anything, it'll be a BP Wahoo White or a Lambic. I would honestly be thrilled if I came home and I see her drinking a Pliny the Elder without me knowing. I'll tease the hell out of her though.

I guess I am lucky that neither my wife, her family nor her friends enjoy my "fancy" beers. They are all wine drinkers and I keep the wine rack and fridge fully stocked. I keep all of my stash in the basement fridge. Any beer that is in the kitchen fridge is for the taking by all. When I have people over that are into the craft beer scene, they can drink whatever as I know that they will appreciate it.

Thankfully, no problems with it. Every roommate I've had has a mutual agreement to not drink each others beer. That's also compiled by me having a mini-fridge in my room that's used for milk and beer. When I am home, my dad will leave bottles in the fridge and never drink them. He also doesn't drink the beers I offer him. I brought home an Exhibition Stout two weeks ago and he hasn't touched it. It's just staring me in the face every time I open the fridge. Can you take back gifts? I digress....

My family knows me beers are my beer. I don't touch my mom's wine. Everyone is happy.

OMG! Outta the can! She was drinking Julius outta the can! I have lost all respect for you. Not for allowing your wife's friend to drink Julius out of the can, but for behaving the way you did. I hope you mature some before she throws her next party.

Maybe, but this dog is pretty smart, too. When he was a pup, he got into the kitchen cupboard while I was at work and managed to open two bottles of Kansas City BBQ sauce I had squirreled away (Gates and Jack Stack), plus a bottle of Mexican vanilla. At least the house smelled really good for about three months.

That's unfortunate, but being that your wife did it you have no recourse obviously. All you can do is smile.

On the one hand, it might be nice if more of my family enjoyed the same beers I do; on the other hand, I'm kind of glad they don't.

I've had the same thought many times. The last thing I want is my drunkard friends and relatives coming over and mooching my good beer. PBR is just fine for them!

I always look forward to having friends over who appreciate the special beers I have cellared. A lot more fun than trying new or rare beers alone. I am happy to share, but I would be annoyed if someone who doesn't like or appreciate good beer cracked open a BCBS, or some other special beer.

My SO and I both love craft beer. Our rule is we're willing to share anything in the fridge with guests. If it's not special, then it's open to any guest.
