I shipped a package using my FedEx account, but now I feel uneasy about what I am getting back on the other end based on some of the communication with the other trader. So I figured I would try to delay my box a day to make sure I get what I am supposed to. However, even though I used my FedEx account and am paying for the package, FedEx is telling me that I cannot change anything about the delivery. Only the recipient can. Has anybody else ever been in a situation like this and been able to change the delivery? I assumed that since I initiated the shipment that I should still hold some control over it.

I got a little lucky in that his box to me is being delivered a day early, so I will know today. Just got the text alert. Will still have an issue if I am shorted, being that I don't think I'll be able to do anything to my box going to him, that is due to arrive tomorrow. Hopefully it all works out, but it will suck to be powerless if I get shorted.

How do you mean you feel "uneasy" about what you are getting back? Are you afraid he isn't going to fulfill his end of the trade, or are you changing your mind about the agreed trade in general?

That's what I was thinking when I read it as well.

I am fine with the agreed upon trade. It is about making sure I get all the beer I am supposed to get. He showed me the shipping receipt and the weight was way low. I know people will pre-print labels and lowball the weight (I do all the time), but he took it to FedEx and had everything done there and he told me they weighed it and everything. But it was 16.1 lbs for a case of 16oz cans plus a few extras. The receipt showed shipping method, tracking, weight, and his cost. It looked like a full blown receipt, so I took that to mean the weight was accurate. I told him I was concerned, but he assures me its all there.

Just let the trade go through as planned. If everything that is supposed to be there isn't then you communicate it with your trade partner and figure it out.

You can't put a hold on it but you can redirect it back to you. You will be out shipping costs though

Thanks for that. I wasn't sure if that was an option, as the person I spoke with wasn't very helpful. We'll see what shows up at my door today. Hopefully its all there and there is nothing to worry about.

Is there any other reason for you to distrust the shipper other than the weight of the box? It seems rather presumptuous to me to assume you're being cheated before the box even arrives. Obviously you'd prefer to have everything go smoothly, but that is why the trading system is in place... if you used it.

In the end it's just beer, if you are worried about getting every dollar you payed for in beer sent out back in beer received then trading is much less fun. I was concerned about money and what each beer actually cost when I started and kept tabs on how much I spent on bubble wrap, shipping and all that noise. Then @whyteboy003 absolutely blew my porch up with a 30lb box when all I asked for was a couple BA Narwhals. After that I tried my best to always send as large of boxes with as many quality extras I could find in a limited distribution area. Beer karma and beer it forward is where trading is the most fun. It's a pay to play game with disposable income.

True, but this wasn't a BA trade. And yes, there were other red flags, but I don't want to get sidetracked and create a lengthy discussion about that. I communicated my reservations to the other trader and told him that I wanted to try and delay my box for a day and he said he understood why I would be concerned, so I'm not hiding anything here. That part of it is done.

This was just a FedEx question. I was surprised that as the shipper, I was told I basically had no control over the package, so I was asking if anyone was ever in a similar situation. Looks like I got my answer a couple posts above.
Believe me, I know. I am actually a very trusting and generous trader. I've traded much more than my stats on here indicate. I've never asked anyone to send first, even when they offered. This was the first time in close to 10 years of trading that I got a bad feeling about a trade. I hope it turns out to be nothing.... and it probably will. I even told the other guy that if this is all just me getting worked up over nothing, I'll gladly be sending him an apology box next week.

But again, this was just a FedEx question, guys.

Haha sorry we did all seem to get a tad sidetracked there, but such is the nature of potential trade issues in this community, most folks want to help out where they can and avoid any bad traders if at all possible. I definitely understand the frustration with FedEx though, I would have thought there was more you could control as well, but it just doesn't look like that is the case.

@JayWhitson yes, it's just beer. However, being concerned with getting what was actually agreed to isn't at all the same as worrying about getting back every dollar he paid out.

Traders, at the very least, are expected to send what was agreed to. Nobody who's been cheated should be encouraged to regard it as 'just beer, no big deal.' Scammers would love to see that philosophy adopted.

I agree that the OP shouldn't get too worried until the box is in hand. If all of the agreed upon beer arrives, the apology box he offered to send, is a generous & appropriate apology.
