Apologies if this has all been covered in different threads, but I wanted to start a new one in hopes of getting up to date info. I'll be in Athens for 2 nights in early April (family vacation, visiting from Minnesota), and was wondering if anyone could help with some or all of the following?

    1) any chance I'll be able to get a case or 2 total of Tropicalia and/or other Creature Comfort cans to go from local shops, or do CC cans come and go very quickly? We'll be in Athens on a Thursday and Friday, so if anyone can help with info regarding delivery days, which shops to try, etc. I would really appreciate it!
    2) do we need reservations to get a tour at the Creature Comforts tasting room?
    3) are children allowed in the CC tasting room?
    4) do they serve wine or food at the CC tasting room? (my wife would like to know this)
    5) any other beer/food recommendations for Athens? Other breweries? Bars that will have Creature Comforts and other local beers on draft? Pizza? Vegetarian food? Kid friendly?

Thanks in advance for advice/info! Cheers!

Familiar with the beer but not the brewery. I visit Atlanta once a week and noticed everywhere Tropicalia has increased in price by 20% to 12.00 a six pack. Cant find it for less but it is very plentiful anywhere you go so you wont have a problem picking up some cases. Jekyll brewing has released Southern Juice IPA for 9.99 a six and is just as good in my view.

Should not be a problem finding a case or two of Tropicalia in Athens. Other cans will be hit or miss and some are brewery only. Bibo pilsner should be pretty easy to find. 5 Points Bottle Shop has 2 locations, Earth Fare is next to one of the 5 Points Bottle places and has had multiple Tropicalia cases each time I've visited, and some of the grocery chains also get drops.

You don't need to make reservations for a tour of CC. Believe tours are run on the hour if I'm not mistaken. I know dogs are allowed, can't remember rules on kids though.

No food or wine at tasting room, but a lot of restaurants and bars within short walking distance from brewery. Keep in mind current GA laws when visiting brewery. Will pay tour fee to go inside and have samples while there, can also purchase separately up to 72 oz of whatever they have available To Go.

To add on.....samples on site are limited to 36 oz, you'll get wristband with 6 tabs, each one good for half pour while there.

Also, Creature has recently been doing small batch brewery only releases recently (on tap and some in cans/bottles to go). Next up is a DIPA collaboration with Modern Times, releasing this Thursday. May be gone by early April, but something else will probably pop up. A pale ale is supposed to be coming soon or maybe you'll get lucky and Cosmik Debris will make an appearance!

Trappeze Pub nearby has really good food and drinks. Southern Brewing Co is not far (not walk-able, but a short drive) and is a really good up and coming brewery. Terrapin is a little further, but also worth a visit.

Elliott, what dates will you be in town? I ask because Athens craft beer week is April 3-9 (check the link below, hopefully they'll update it soon) will be some craft beer events going on everyday that week in Athens. I also second the Trappeze Pub because of their food/drinks, and it's literally a stones throw from creature comforts. Also, about 10 mins from downtown is Catch22 gastropub, great beer selection, great food, kid friendly. They're on untapped, so you can check out their beer list.

CCBC allows kids in the tasting room. For pizza-little Italy. For vegetarian-heirloom market(also have 750ml CCBC bottles). For amazing food-last resort. There is also a really good new Korean BBQ place right behind CCBC. Southern brewing co. is killing it and worth a drive or uber. I think everyone above has you covered. Hope you have a great trip.

That's because distro raised the price per case. It's now $4 and change more than Bibo and Athena per case.

Yep Trop is not flying off the shelves anymore. I do buy their Bibo, a quality Pilsner.

Modern Times in not available in GA. The collab mentioned above is brewery only, so you won't get it either.

If you go to the brewery on Saturday, there's a decent chance they might still have some 6 packs of Modern Comforts.

They usually do their brewery only can releases on Tuesdays and I'm fairly certain all of those batches have lasted through the weekend. This one drops on a Thursday, so I'd think you'll be more than OK.

We'll arrive 4/6 and are staying for 2 nights; sounds like we may have good timing! Are there usually some fun tappings/releases/events the Thursday and Friday of Athens beer week?

Thanks for all the info/input/advice so far; I really appreciate it!

Most likely there will be some fun tappings and events both of those nights. Last year on Thursday of craft beer week, Catch 22 had creature comforts flight night, also on that Thursday Trappeze tapped several rare Terrapin barrel-aged beers.

As of yesterday they still had some six packs of Modern comforts at the Brewery. Also just released a new Pale Ale in cans at the brewery.
