Headed from the airport to Marietta tomorrow around noon. Which Hop City should we stop at? Leaning toward the Krog Market. Is it easy to access, what about parking? Also, in Marietta, staying around Windy Hill Rd and 75, what is our best bet for a decent beer bar close by? Looking to try local beers and good IPA and sour beers.
Westside location has way easier parking and 5 Seasons brewpub is next door if you need a draft. Krog parking can be tough sometimes but has a bar on the inside.
Of the two Hop City locations, I definitely second the recommendation for Westside. Walk next door and enjoy a beer from 5 Seasons while you're there. Octane across the street also has a well curated, if small, selection of beer on draft. The one advantage to Krog Street is that it functions as a bar, but it is crazier too. Fellow Marietta resident here: As for your location, you're in a rather dry spot for beer. You can drive 5-10 south on Cobb Pkwy to one of the newer Taco Macs which is a local chain with a large selection. If it's growlers and bottles you're after, you can drive down Windy Hill to Atlanta Road and take a left and drive down Atlanta to Stout Brothers on the right. If you're willing to drive to Kennesaw (about 10-15 min up 75 to 575) you'll find World of Beer and another Taco Mac. As for breweries, you're closest to Red Hare. They're very middle of the road, but better than the haters suggest. Burnt Hickory in Kennesaw is more than effort (20-25 min from your location) but worth the effort if you have the time. (Check the schedules first.) Other good shops are BevMaxx and Sprayberry Bottle Shop, but those will be drives. Have a good time.
As for beers to try: IPA - Creature Comforts Tropicalia and Cosmik Debris, Orpheus Transmigration of Souls (my fave) and The Rites, Burnt Hickory The Didjits, Cannon Dragger, and Ezekiel's Wheel (a pale ale that may as well be an IPA) Sour - Orpheus Atalanta, Creature Comforts Athena and variants, Westbrook Gose, anything Wicked Weed.
Thanks all! We ended up at Krog St Market and paid to park in the lot across the street. Picked up some Transmigration of Souls, Athena, and Slap Fight. Hit Johnnie Mccrakens for dinner. Several beers were not available but the food was good and very reasonable prices. May stop back and try the bar, as our server was very nice but not beer savvy. Stopped at the Wing Cafe, but is was kind of a cluster, so we left and went to Johnnies instead. Still have a few days to explore as we are headed down to Tybee and will be back in Marietta at the end of the week. Thanks again, sipping on a Transmigration of Souls now.
I used to get really mad at this but they are so fucking packed on fridays and saturdays they run out of stuff really quick and don't have enough time to update their draft list. Still a great spot. Glad you had fun.
Surprised it wasn't mentioned, but Mink's package is one exit up from Windy Hill and solid on selections.
