Taking the family down to Atlanta to check SunTrust Park off the list along with finally seeing the Aquarium. Sounds like downtown Atlanta isn't much of a beer mecca. Any recommendations for kid friendly, non-chain restaurants with a good mid-Atlantic beer selection? Always on the hunt for good cold brew coffee - Octane Coffee on Marietta St worth it? Appreciate any help.

Relatively close to downtown is Scofflaw brewery, The Porter Beer Bar, Brickstore Pub, and Wrecking Bar brewpub. They are all great options.

Octane is good. 5 Seasons brewery & restaurant is right across the street with hop city as well. Solid stop for what you want.

Also, not beer related but see you like good food too. Right near suntrust is heirloom BBQ. It is asian/southern BBQ fusion and is fire! Worth the wait as lines can get long at busy hours. Easily top 3 BBQ in the city. Some of the best we have to offer.

Octane is very good. 5 Seasons is right across the street. Max Lager's is a really good brewpub within walking distance to the Aquarium. If you are going to Scofflaw, as everyone else in Atlanta is, check out Second Self only a mile away. Red Brick is also right around the corner. And Das BBQ is just up the street from those and they do some dang good BBQ. The only question mark on kid-friendliness is Red Brick. I think they are, but you may want to just give them a quick buzz to see for sure.

Definitely appreciate the insight. I'll definitely be hitting Scofflaw and Max's Lagers seems like a no-brainer if it's by the Aquarium. I've read good things about Fox Bro's BBQ. Preferences between them or Das BBQ? Also, Brick House Pub seems like a cold little destination. Surprised no one has mentioned that with all the good reviews it's received.

Downtown not so much, but plenty of places minimally far away. Scofflaw, Orpheus, Torched Hop, Porter, Brick Store, and Wrecking Bar are all close enough to hit. I'm sure there's others, those are my favorites.

Brick store pub and porter are our best beer bars. I like porter better as they have more draft lines and their food is much better than BSP. Downside, it's tiny and gets way to crowded at busy hours. Fox bros is great and if you go there, make sure you hit wrecking bar brewpub. Beer and food are great. For BBQ, my top 3 are...
    1. Daddy d'z
    2. Fox bros
    3. Heirloom

Das BBQ was really good if you're already over there in that neighborhood.

I was just listening to a podcast about the best BBQ joints in the country & they were raving about Heirloom. Sounds incredible.

Cheers for all of the recommendations - especially Scofflaw. We went on Thursday night. Had several of their ipa's (Hooligan, R&D, Basement + variant) as well as a barrel aged stout. Awesome stuff. Walked out with day old 6 packs of Hooligan and a bottle of a barrel aged strong ale. Just wanted to point out how cool the owners are. Definitely the most kid-friendly owners I've seen at a brewery. You guys have some weird laws but make it work.

Also, Heirloom BBQ was some seriously great stuff. They beat Fox Bro's by a good margin in my book (although those smoked wings were a gift from the heavens).

Picked up some delicious cold brew at Octane and didn't realize I was parked in front of Hop City. Went in there and chatted up one of the dudes and next thing I know 30 minutes is gone.

Ammazza pizza was a cool spot. Good beers on tap and good pies.

We hit local donut shops for the kids whenever we travel. Revolution Donuts which is down the street from Ammazza definitely had some of the best donuts we've had over the years. I know this isn't a donut forum but check it out if you haven't been. I'm probably preaching to the choir. We had Sublime Donuts as well but they didn't touch Revolution.

Again, thanks for the recommendations. We'll definitely be back.

I second the praise for Scofflaw. I hit them up Sunday before flying back to San Diego. My main point of the visit was hitting breweries in Athens but I had time Sunday to hit one. Their IPA was much better than Creature Comforts, more modern juicy (but not hazy) style IPA. I would have grabbed a six pack of Hooligan if I didn't love their barrel aged strong so much. And I rarely bring IPAs back to San Diego with me.

I'm drinking the BA Strong right now and kicking myself for not grabbing a couple more. Excited to watch these guys grow.
