After taking an AWESOME beercation to Asheville, NC last week and visiting 8 breweries in 3 days I have the urge to visit more breweries in my home state. I'm going to be in Atlanta on Friday with some time to kill and was wondering if you beer advocates out there can recommend a brewery to tour. I want to add that I've already been to Burnt Hickory, Orpheus, Monday Night, and Sweetwater and would like to visit one that I haven't been to already. I'm mostly an IPA guy but I've really been getting more into sours lately (especially after visiting the Funkatorium!). Let me hear some opinions.
List of Atlanta breweries here. I've not visited either place but had some very nice beers from both Wrecking Bar and Three Taverns.
Oh yeah I have been to Wrecking Bar too. I was actually considering Three Taverns. I just wanted to get some opinions from people who have been to some of the ones that I haven't. Thanks!
Is there a particular time of day you prefer? 3 Taverns will actually be open at 3 to show the Euro soccer match, in addition to their usual hours. Wild Heaven is another good option and is less than a mile away. If you're just gonna do one, I would vote 3 Taverns. Cherry St being a brewpub will have a lot more options and longer hours. You should definitely visit there sometime.
they are brand new, but Abbey of the Holy Goats has a great taproom and everything I've had from them has been really good so far. They are located in Roswell. http://abbeyoftheholygoats.com/
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I had completely forgotten about Cherry Street and was just reading about their coconut porter the other day so I may have to drive up to Cumming to check that out. 3 Taverns Hoplicity is one of my favorite IPA's so that may be an option as well (if they have it on tap currently). Keep the suggestions coming!
No Hoplicity right now. They usually post their draft list on Instagram. I got curious and looked at Cherry Street's tap list and realized I need to get there again soon: http://www.cherrystreettaproom.com/#slide1
Thanks for the info. I'll have to follow them on Instagram now. And WOW! If I don't make it to Cherry Street Taproom on Friday, I'll definitely be making a trip up there soon. Thanks again!
Three Taverns is also doing a Sour Asylum series and they almost always have one version or another available. Their Night on Ponce IPA is solid as well. If you haven't had it yet, grab some Monday Night Slap Fight when you're here, if you can find it. Wild Heaven and Red Brick are a couple others I enjoy. Wild Heaven Dionysus Cuvee is a tasty sour, as is Three Taverns Inceptus, not sure what distro status is on those right now. If you make it to Brick Store Pub keep an eye out for anything from Good Word Brewing. A couple of the guys at BSP are starting a brewpub and they have been guest brewing some batches at local breweries. They had a beer called Bridges on this weekend that was an American Wild Ale and it's one of the best beers I've had in GA.
Thanks for the info! I'll have to check out the Sour Asylum. Looks like we may be going to 3 Taverns but it's still up in the air because I'll have a few other friends with me. I love Night on Ponce but Hoplicity blows it out of the water IMO. Too bad it isn't on tap now. We get Slap Fight down here regularly. It's probably my favorite Monday Night Brew actually. I'm glad you brought up Red Brick because I was going to ask about the brewery. I'm not a huge fan of any of their brews (though I've only had a handful) but I heard it was worth visiting the brewery so that may be an option as well. Cherry Street is going to be a no-go this time around as it is going in the opposite direction in which we'll be heading on Friday. Bummer.
I'm heading up Thursday night with 2 other friends for the Sublime with Rome/Tribal Seeds concert at the Tabernacle and staying with a friend in Kennessaw after the concert. Everything is still up in the air for Friday but we are still trying to hash out some plans. I live in South Georgia (about 3 hours South of Atlanta) so I know we will be heading back down South before it gets too late on Friday but again, no solid plans as of now for Friday.
So I heard!!!! I LOVE that beer too! I'm going to be in Atlanta Friday night for a concert at the Masquerade. Anyone know if any of the bottle shops near there (Green's perhaps?) have Hoplicity in stock? Thanks!
Check out Torched Hop. Was just in ATL last weekend and was very impressed. Good food, great IPAs and awesome space/business model. I second this. Had a dry-hopped sour by Good Word at Brick Store and it was phenomenal.
