Traveling to Atlanta this weekend and looking to hit up one brewery and a bottle shop as I will be pinched for time. I like NEIPAs so looking for those and my gf likes fruited sours. I have heard new realm and three taverns are good breweries and spray berry for a bottle shop.

Georgia is still in South-Atlantic. A lot of threads/info there on the ATL scene. Safe travels; cheers!

I'm not familiar with the places there but I do know that ATL is in the Good People distribution footprint. If you like DIPAs look for Good People Snake Handler. It's out in cans right niw and is a pretty hot commodity here in Birmingham where they are headquartered.

What part of town are you going to be in? We have some excellent breweries!

    Some of my favorites:
Cherry Street - a bit far North, of the City, but amazing
    Orpheus - sours and stouts
Monday Night Brewery or the new Monday Night Garage (their barrel aging facility)
Red Brick - ATLs oldest brewery...would have said “meh”a year ago, but recently has been making some great stuff
    Three Taverns
    Scofflaw

Spayberry is a good bottle shop, but can be a bit of a hike if you’re staying near downtown. Best bets in town are Hop City (2 locations), Greens (2 locations), and Ale Yeah (Decatur).

For brewpubs, I’d actually recommend Wrecking Bar or Torched Hops before New Realm right now. Not to knock New Realm...beautiful facility and solid beers. They are just brand new and the selection isn’t that great (yet)...marketing more towards the masses currently...light lagers, IPAs, etc

Beer bars: The Porter, and The Brick Store - both would probably be ranked amongst the best beer bars in the Southeast

For resources, check out http://beerguysradio.com/ for Atlanta beer news, podcasts, and a map of breweries (I have no affiliation), or our very active subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/atlbeer/

Any good NEIPAs at breweries or bottle shops? And where should I go for creature comforts cans?

IMO, We don’t have anyone who has really established themselves as a consistent, well known NEIPA brewer. That said, Torched Hops, Three Taverns, Monday Night, Cherry Street and others have had solid efforts with some of their limited releases. Scofflaw and New Realm have some great IPAs, but I’d say they’re generally more West Coast inspired. The New Realm head brewer was the previous head brewer for Stone, and I think the brewer from Scofflaw spent time at Russian River (if I’m remembering correctly).

For Creature Comforts, try one of the bottleshops already mentioned (they also all have twitter feeds that are worth checking), or really any beer/wine/liquor store. Tropicalia (CC flagship IPA) seems to consistently hit town once or twice a week and will sell out in a day or two at the bottle shops. We’ve also been getting some shipments of Koko Buni recently- a coconut/chocolate/coffee milk porter that’s pretty fantastic. Bibo Pils seems to be readily available at a lot of places.

Red Brick is actually doing a collab NEIPA release with Wrecking Bar this Thurs that looks really promising, and Pontoon brewery (have not had anything from them myself yet) is also doing one. They have the events listed on their Facebook pages

Thanks! I saw the page for the pontoon beer. Might have to check that out.

Don't skip Scofflaw. More traditional IPA's, no necessarily hazy, but didn't have a beer that I would rate less than above average and a few really fantastic beers too.

You must go to THE PORTER. Wrecking Bar brew pub is right around the corner from it as well.

One of the best beer bars (and vintage lists) around.

If you do make it to Three Taverns it might also be worth making a trip over to Wild Heaven. Not far and they have had some pretty solid fruited sours recently, not sure what the current releases look like. The Porter is great but there can be a wait. If you show up at 12:15 on a sunday you can usually be seated immediately and have a beer by the time your food comes out.

Any of these places have heated outdoor seating? I’m going to Atlanta to pick up a puppy and looked at the weather and it’s gonma be pretty cold. Probably looking at stopping at wrecking bar, porter, new realm since they are all close to each other. Picking puppy at the expo center south.

On a similar note. Is there a neighborhood/ district that has several breweries/ beer bars that's walkable?

Decatur is the most walkable. Three Taverns, Wild Heaven, Blue Tarp for breweries, Twains for a brewpub (Mike is killing it lately), and for bars you have Brickstore, Leon's, The Marlay House, Square Pub, Iberian Pig, Cakes and Ale, Corner Pub, even the Mellow Mushroom has a solid taplist.

Decatur, just get the Marriott and walk everywhere. There is a Super 8 close to downtown but may not be up to everyone's standards, but I don't mind staying there.

Lots of great places to walk around and even more a short uber ride away.

Make sure those visiting hit up Red Brick. They have a new brewer and are doing amazing things now!
