I'm heading down to Atlanta for the next couple of days for business. I'm staying at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center. Can you please let me know where the good beer bars and stores are? Also, any breweries close by? I have a car but would like to stay close to the hotel if possible. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Check out the city guide for Atlanta: http://beeradvocate.com/beerfly/city/1

In my experience, Taco Mac usually has a great selection on draft. Also, check out Ale Yeah in Decatur if you get the chance.

Definitely stop by Red Brick Brewing. I know they do a big pint night on Fridays where(if I recall correctly) it was something like $10 for a pint glass and 3-4 beer tokens for whatever beer you want. It may have changed, but I know I'll be in town next month, and I always go there.

    Cheers!

I'm going to have to disagree 100% with HopsJunkiedotcom.

Go to (approximately in this order):
Brick Store Pub (also close to Twains and Leons)
    Wrecking Bar
    Porter Beer Bar
Five Seasons Westside (and Hop City next door - the best beer store in the city)
    Twains
Leons (also has great cocktails if you're into that)

Don't go to Taco Mac. The Fred is a decent bar, but it's far from GA Tech and not as good as the places listed above.

Oh and feel free to bring me some Coconut Joe - that stuff is amazing.

I agree with coreyfmcdonald. Brick Store, Leon's for dinner, (both in short walking distance) or the Porter.

Taco Mac is only good for wings.

You really only disagreed 33% :stuck_out_tongue: Those are just the places I've been that I can vouch for. Never had a bad experience at Taco Mac, frankly. I knew I was forgetting one, and it was Brick Store Pub. Absolutely go there. They have Rodenbach Grand Cru on draft right now, for cryin out loud.

Honestly, if you're staying in that area and dont want to drive, the Taco Mac on peachtree
has a decent list. Also check out Cypress Street which has craft beer and good food within walking distance.

From your location check out http://midcitycafe.com/ (walking distance)

We were there and happened upon this bar....50% off all beer taps EVERYDAY 4-7 I think. Thursday $3 Sweetwater beers....I can't recall what all we had but we left here, went to Taco Mac and was ready to go back! They get no props as they are small and unknown....check it out.

Brick Store Pub, Hop City & Five Seasons are my 3 best recommendations. Enjoy Atlanta!

I'll second Five Seasons, and then heading next door to do some drunken beer shopping at HopCity.

Brick Store Pub if you want a little bit of bar food and some drinks.

Five Seasons if you want a good meal, and some nice suds brewed on site to wash down.

Hop City (and stop by five seasons next door)
    The Porter
Brick Store Pub (a little bit of a drive if you are staying near GT)
Sweetwater is right around the corner from GT

Definitely would recommend hitting up Hop City (excellent selection). The Porter is a great bar, and has an excellent beer menu.

I was in Atlanta a few weeks ago and enjoyed the Brick Store Pub. I stayed in mid-town, and would have enjoyed the pub more if I had realized before hand that there is a Marta station very close to the pub.

The Sweetwater Brewery is not far, not close not far, from that part of town. I thin its $8 for a pint glass and six beer tickets for what I would call 3/4 glass pours if you find the right server.
Now there is no loser between The Brick Store and The Porter but I will give you my two cents. If you want some really good food with your really good beer, I would say go to The Porter. I just like their food a little better, its a better selection as well. The Brick Store has a really good cellar list and the upstairs bar is nothing but Belgian beers so if you like that its really good. Also the Brick Store is a bit more intimate and no as loud. If you go there ask for the daily special or charcuterie list.
If you waited a few more weeks Terrapin's Wake-N-Bake would be out for you take home with you as well.

You are close to the Midtown MARTA station if you want to hop on and go to Brick Store/Leon's in Decatur and not worry about driving back. Five Seasons and Cypress St. are the closest places to the GT hotel, though if you're here for more than a day you should take the time to head to Decatur and check out Brick Store.
