One of my first stops in Atlanta when I get home from Afghanistan next month will be at a home brew supply store. I know Hop City sells homebrew supplies but I live several hours South of Atlanta so I'm not too familiar with the area. I am specifically looking for bulk grains (50 lb bags). Anyone have any recommendations? Or should I just stick with Hop City? Thanks in advance.
First and foremost... great to hear you are heading back home and are anxious to get back to an awesome hobby. In terms of your question, you probably will have a larger audience if you take it over to the homebrew section. From a personal perspective, I have found that buying bulk grains is more economical if purchased from a local homebrew store. You can typically find a cheaper price online (MoreBeer, Midwest Supplies, Northern Brewer, etc.) but the cost of shipping usually nullifies or exceeds the cost at your local store which, given your location in the state, may not be a good option either. Anyway, give the homebrew section a shot and happy brewing!
Right. I always order my homebrew supplies online BUT with the weight of bulk grain, I think buying "local-ish" is going to be the way to go considering I am planning to buy several 50 lb bags of grain. There are no "local" homebrew supply stores even remotely close to my area (rural South GA) so I figured I'd pick something up in Atlanta since I'm going to be up there anyway. Oh and thanks! It has been a LONNNNNNGGGGG ass year... I can't wait to get home to my family and to some beer!!!!
I also don’t have a local homebrew store. Midwest recently went to free shipping on anything, including sacks of grain. Their everyday prices aren’t great, but they run 20% off specials often enough that it does make it a good deal. You can get a bag for of 2 row for $45, shipped. Welcome home.
Damn! I wish I had know that. I literally JUST ordered some supplies from them last week! Anyway, hey thanks for the heads up man. That option is now on the table.
