I’ll be in town for a business diner with clients and am looking for a VERY upscale restaurant, with a matching beer and bourbon selection. I’ll be near I-285 and Hyw 19/400 on the north side. Downtown doesn’t seem too far so open to suggestions in that area as well. Thx!
Hope we didn't miss your trip. VERY upscale and beer are going to be hard to match in ATL. All upscale places will have solid bourbon lists even if it is not the focus. Most upscale and beer will be Kimble House but that's going to be a hike from 400/285. Worth it though. Couple of well curated taps, killer cocktails (like award winning cocktail program) and bourbon list to boot. Best and most accessible will be Miller Union. Bourbon yes. Beer is not the focus there though. It will be close to the Westside brewery district for after dinner beers. Good luck, let me know where you end up.
Kimble House is amazing but a trek from up north. Canoe is pretty great food, booze, and wine wise; beer is ok but right on the river and really pretty.
I am no local, but I have made one trip to Atlanta in the past year, and had another trip planned that fell through. I always look for the following: 1. Quality upscale meal (whether that is a steak or something else) 2. Solid bourbon list 3. Solid beer list. Being a trader on here, only 1 and 2 were able to come together for me. That said, there are many nice upscale options that have great bourbon lists. If you fancy something you see on their list, though, you should call. Despite many places stating that the list is updated (even if it is date stamped), they often fail to update them. I went to Sprig last year, and I had to order 5 different whiskey’s before I was able to actually get a pour, because they had failed to not only update their online list, but their physical list as well.
In Buckhead you could try Little Alley Steak, King + Duke, St. Cecilia. On the west side The Optimist.
Piggyback on this thread, I'll be on a business trip to Atlanta in a couple of weeks. We're only staying for 2 nights in Buckhead and would appreciate craft beer recommendations either in the area or with an easy way to get to and from. Lager-focused breweries/bars would be my preference, but I know coworkers are into other styles too. Thanks!
Depends how far you want to drive but 20 minutes south, in not too bad traffic, Halfway Crooks makes some of the best lagers I've had anywhere. To be clear though it is not a nice restaurant, it's a quirky brewery that does casual food and really good lagers and classic styles.
Thanks, I'm already back home from the trip. That said, I read this great article before the trip and ultimately decided Halfway Crooks is the brewery to check out. We only had time for a couple of beers before their closing but ended up with a couple of four-packs to enjoy at the hotel later that night. Great lagers (and other beers) indeed, and a great spot to enjoy a beer or two.
