Can you fill growlers at tap houses?

 

That is what I like to call perfect timing.

 

Short answer: Not in Georgia, I'm afraid. Sorry about that.

To elaborate further, we really don't have "taprooms" in Georgia although certain establishments may call themselves that. We have breweries and brewpubs. At a brewery, you pay for a "tour" that entitles you to 36 oz. of on-premises consumption and 72 oz. of "souvenir" beer that may be taken off premises. That beer, from breweries, may be dispensed and packaged in growlers. But check with the brewery directly to see what they will and will not offer. (Breweries seem to be embracing crowlers lately.) Brewpubs, however, are not allowed to fill growlers of their beer for off-site consumption.

 

To add to this, you can also get growlers filled at retail stores. Hop City, Ale Yeah, My Friends Growler Shop, and there are others I can't think of at the moment. It's not the same as getting it fresh from the brewery, but if you wanted some Tropicalia or something else and couldn't find cans, it's an option. They'll fill any 32 or 64 oz growler that has the government alcohol warning on it.

 

Good to know. I wish California would get with it and allow growler fills at retail shops. Such weird growler laws here. Thanks for the tip.

 

i'm not from Atlanta, but whenever i've gone through the city in the last few years, i make a point to stop at Hop City for bottles. never been disappointed in their selection.
